The fact there is no hum in the middle is because one of them is reverse wound effectively making them a humbucker.
Go for duncan QPs if you like, no harm in pickup changes, just don't #### up the originals. They'll probably be better made, eliminating some of that hum, but hum is just a sad fact with JMs, thats one of the main reasons they created the Jaguar and why they went shielding mad what with the pickup claws and that.
You might want to shield the thing too. A good shielding kit is available from stewmac.com for only $15 although you could just do it with kitchen foil (make sure its conductive though) And don't forget to do the pickguard!
