need some help choosing new tuners for my CIJ Jag!

Hi there, I have a 1993 CIJ with Mustang Bridge (shortly being upgraded to Mastery...) SD Quarter Pounder at the neck and SD Hotrail at the bridge.

The 'G' tuner has become loose and I'd rather just replace the stock ones anyway, don't know what kind or size to go for though, been looking at Fender Schaller locking deluxe tuners (http://www.stringsdirect.co.uk/products ... _set_of_6_) and I'm pretty sure these are the ones I want, but I wanted to ask people who have replaced their tuners before.

I also don't know if buying these means needing to modify the holes, I really don't want to have to do that! Any help will be much appreciated.

Ask fender what size the existing tuners are, then just get the same size.

But I would have thought the kluson style ones they sell should fit 😕

I'm sure the Kluson ones will fit, but I don't want to use them, I wanted to buy locking tuners. I've contacted Fender for the sizes, but they've not gotten back to me yet. I also can't find the size of the Kluson tuners to compare with others. As I said I would prefer to buy the Fender Schaller locking tuners, but need to know what size the holes are!

The schaller/gotoh locking tuners (the ones with the wheel at the back) are 10mm.

Do you feel okay about drilling the neck

Don't really want to drill the neck if I can help it. Are there any other locking alternatives you know of that would not require drilling to fit?

Don't know about that.

But as for drilling, any carpenter should do it for virtually nothing.

Just requiers a drill press, vice and spirit level

There's the kind you want, those ones you're looking at won't fit - it requires an entirely different fitting. Can't vouch for the quality of tonepros but it was the top GOOGLE search.

Seriously, why would you even suggest a drill press?

i put some fender schaller tuners in my cij jag hh but i had to drill bigger holes and put other lil holes in to stop them spinning round as they are held in different using screw bushes. it was a pretty mammoth task getting them on there( i am rubbish at that sorta stuff tho), but well worth the stress.

the guy wasn't set on schallers just locking tuners - you can get locking klusons. drilling in for schallers is a long contorted devaluing method, and in fact terrible idea. bad advice dude.

When i have fitted machine heads that need bigger holes in the past i have used a round file to make the hole bigger. Its not quite as accurate as a drill press, but cheaper, less hassle and no chance of damage (file AWAY from the finish).

I'd buy replacements anyway, the schaller idea is srsly a bad idea imo.

Hey everyone, thanks for all the suggestions they were very helpful and stopped me from buying the wrong size.

I contacted Fender UK - who couldn't tell me what size the post holes were and were utterly unhelpful, so I got in touch with AllParts and am awaiting some locking replacements (Gotoh Kluson style) that will fit without me having to mash at (or pay someone else to mash at) my headstock 😀 Don't know how good quality they will be though - I'll probably post a review of them in about 3 weeks when they (finally) get here.

Older jaguars have Ping tuners but newer ones have Gotoh tuners, exactly the same ones as US jaguars have.

You could install Gotoh vintage style tuners from www.guitarpartsresource.com/

These are what Fender USA use on vintage reissue guitars,
