Jag HH n00b - a few ?s - pickguard, buzz, pups -

hey there everyone.

just got myself a jaguar hh special today from musicians friend and i totally love it! however - i have a few questions most of you most likely can answer with ease

here we go!

1) i REALLY want a white pearl guard for this, i dont want to have to spend 60 bucks, anyone know a good place that has them made already? or possibly a really cheap blank piece?

2) there seems to be a weird string buzz, im guessing its something to do with the bridge, i used to have a g400 that had a similar situation going on. sorry i cant narrow it down - just hoping its a normal problem.

thanks a lot a head of time! hopefully you can help me out and i can deck this puppy out.

also - this is opinion based, does anyone know if theres something special about the stock pups? do people often replace them? im just curious if its best i leave them stock or replace them. suggest pups if you want. thanks again!

The string buzz could be a number of things........ Bad bridge, uneven frets, low action, strings too thin etc. Take a look around google for some articles on how to set it up or if you're not sure, take it to a GOOD luthier.... had too many of those dreadlock store techs muck things up for me 🤮

Something you may want to do with the pickups is get them wax potted. The covers vibrate on the pickup and since there is no wax to stop that, you get something called microphonics. They are nice pickups, but you need to get them wax potted. Its like having a sports car, but having crappy tyres and no oil

i actually have one. the buzzing problems (on mine at least) came down to the crap bridge that comes with the guitar. you can get a replacement fairly cheap, or you can 'fix' yours by wax potting it. for the pickups, it's entirely subjective. i didn't like them at all, but i also don't like paf bridge pups... until you play loud enough to make the pickups oscillate, you don't need to wax pot them. you'll know its the pickups when you hear a terrible screeching sound, especially close to the amp.

as for whats special about the stock pups, they have very low dc resistance, meaning a low output and bright sound. they're basically underwound paf's.

to try and solve your buzzing issues w/out modding/replacing the bridge, raise it up very high, and shim the neck to compensate. also, high gauge strings would help w/buzz.
