After listening to that, Kurt's guitar sounds freakishly like mine, mild overdrive when clean and all. I guess it's safe to say there is some weight to my theory that a 24" scale with medium-high output humbuckers equals mild overdrive when clean active or passive.

I think it's also due the way he sticks that bridge pickup. It's high up almost touching the strings.
