Newbie Jaguar trem arm question....

I've recently acquired my very first Fender (a 90's Jaguar) - the trem arm set up is new to me, coming from strat type set-ups before this. When the arm travels back up to its 'start' position (after whammy-ing), there's a clicking sound.... metal clicking against metal, if that makes any sense. That's not right, surely?

.. When I tighten that centre screw on the plate, it does stop the clicking, but also stops the whammying!

what it is is the spring plate touching the main tail piece, the adjustment screw needs to be tightened just a little bit, just so the spring plate naturally hovers a mil or two under the tail piece.

Yeah, the spring plate clicks against the underneath of the main tail piece. If I adjust it to the point to where the clicking stops, I get no tremolo effect.... I've a buzz stop, will that be causing this?

Anyone? Is it the buzz stop causing this?

now that sounds odd, i know my trem arm would tap everytime it returned up, so i did like i said, i wouldnt have thought youd have to drop the trem setting so far as you'd get no effect.

ive never had a buzzstop so i couldnt say about any problems they bring up but this doesnt sound right, as long as the two plates dont touch in their natural state there shouldnt be a problem.

by stops its whammying do you mean the trem doesnt drop at all?

Yes - the trem arm will still go down when it's tight, but there's barely any whammy I'm thinking is it to do with the trem lock? :

Here are some photos - how dusty is that metal! Anyways, I think there's an issue with the plate underneath the actual outer plate, if that makes sense. It's not parallel to the top one, even when the screw is tightened.... The trem arm does not sit at a right angle to it - should it? The part I circled is the part that angles and clicks against the top plate each time a whammy is completed....

Its all to do with the tension screw. If its tight the tremolo is not 'floating', so everytime it returns you will hear metal on metal.

If its loosened it wont fully reach the top and the clicking will go away but you will have less dive. Set it where you want, it does'nt have to be at a right angle.

Check you are'nt sliding the locking button over because that will stop travel depending on where things are set.

well your trem lock is forward meaning its off, the screw behind it is the adjustment screw, turn that about half a turn, maybe a full turn and the trem arm will drop just a mil or two and all should be well

Hey all - I think I've sorted it...? Ok, it seems like that screw was just turned WAY too much clockwise. I've loosened it a lot, left the tremlock forward, and I can now whammy. It seems a 'looser', not as strong an effect whammy than my strat-style guitar, but I suppose that's just the way with Jags? I've nothing to compare it to as it's my first one.
