Is the Epiphone Les Paul Custom a decent guitar?

I've been thinking about getting one. I've heard the higher end Epi's aren't as bad as the lower end ones. Anyone ever played one? From what I've read and watched videos of they sound good to me. Also, which color the black or the white do you think looks best. At first I was thinking the white but now I'm leaning towards the black. Thanks.

i have an epi standard. .. love that thing. .

custom is probably better. . and get black. .white is ####-ish

I believe they are not that bad.

I've had a Richwood Les Paul Custom, (pre lawsuit) witch is i think is better than any of the Epi's.

Damm do i regret selling that thing........ ☹

Before dropping cash on an Epi, look at the Agiles at http://www.rondomusic.com and Michael Kellys at http://www.michaelkellyguitars.com

Both are highly praised as equal to or better than Epi's for less money.

I have an MK. Its superb.

Another thumbs up for the Agiles at rondomusic. I found the necks on the Agiles feel much better than the Epiphones.

You should check Pawn shops/used/ebay for a real Gibson LP...

Musicians Friend has the studio's for sale right now...I have the Faded Brown Mahogany one and I really like it for, the pups are not my favorite but they are nice. For only $799 (40 bucks more then the epi) you can't go wrong.

I think you should play a few of them before you buy. go to all the local places and play every guitar you think you might like and than make a decision. Its very common to play 20 of the same guitar and each one is different and only 1 may be any good for your tastes. its common to find alot of "duds" in mass produced guitars.

I have a Epiphone 3 Pickup Black Beauty, I've replaced the bridge with a Burstbucker 2. They are nice guitars however I've never stopped having problems with the electronics, and the input jack is totally shot now and has to be replaced so it sits in my closet.

I'd say save a up more dollars not much maybe another $100USD and buy a used Gibson Les Paul Studio on ebay they are going for dirty low prices now and it will be 1000X better quality then the Epiphone. The epiphone's arent bad they just have lower grade components and with a real Gibson you'll get a good solid guitar you can use for awhile.

To answer the question of what guitars I have now. A 65 reissue mustang, Fender Strat HSS (made in mexico), and an Applause brand electric guitar which looks like a strat copy and was my first guitar. I'll check out all the other guitars you guys listed. Unfortunately the local music shop we have doesn't have the biggest selection. Lately I've been using the 4 payment installment plan at Zzounds to buy my guitars. I can rarely afford to drop a lot cash at once and the plan doesn't charge interest. Of course it's always a risk buying guitars online. I've seen lots of Epiphone Les Paul Customs on Ebay for pretty cheap. Some in the $300 range.

All of this though will come after my plan of saving up and bidding on a jag-stang on ebay.

I'd be interested in seeing a pic of that Applause. I didn't know Ovation/Applause made Strat copies.

And as for buying online, Rondo's rep for customer service is very solid and highly touted.

Yeah let me upload some pics of it. Funny thing the first time I took it into a guitar shop the guy said the same thing. He had never seen one before.

I bought it at a pawn shop. It was made in Korea. Has a locking tremolo. Also there's a little switch next to the pick up selector that I have no idea what it does. It doesn't seem to do anything when I switch it back and forth. Probably broken.

Honestly I'm not going to lie I have had at least 4-5 epi's in my entire life and they all equally suck. If you do get one you should really alteast change the bridge pick up.

Hmm, dunno if this is useful, but a friend of mine compared a couple of the more expensive Epiphone LP's (dunno if the Custom is one of those?) with Gibson's cheapest LP, and he preferred the Epiphone...

His advice to me (I wanted an LP a while back) was to go with an Epi, or get the cash for a secondhand Gibson.
