Is the Alchemist one of the newer PCP offerings from Bogner or is it one of the handwired models?

Not that it matters really, I'm sure it still sounds great, I'm just excited that Bogner is starting to make more affordable models; it just sucks they're having to cut a few corners to do so.

Yeah, it is.

They really haven't cut corners though. Its made really well with a lot of the components sourced from the USA and Europe

For me, it would truly all depend upon application, but if I had to choose one amplifier to do the job for Stage, Studio, and Practice, then it would be the Alchemist.

Now, if it went down to individual needs

Practice = Cube

Home Recording = Cube

Live Performance = Alchemist

Band Rehearsal = Alchemist

Play Devoid of Pedals = Cube

Play a Blues Jam = Alchemist....and I'm sure you get a point now....

Oh, and is that the child of Cyrano up there?

i don't know or pretend to know whether pcb's sound any different from hand-wired boards. However, Bogner obviously thinks that handwired boards sound better, or at the very least are more durable; if he didn't, none of his amps would be hand-wired.

Well I've played two super reverbs one a 1965 and the other Reissue 1965 right next to one another, and clearly the original was much warmer in tone, and didn't have the harsh upper end that the reissue did. But that could obviously be attributed to many other factors besides the circuit board.

I've also ab'd a Dabeck 59 Bassman and a reissue 59 and the Dabeck was far superior, it sounded like a different amp circuit completely. The point there is that they were both brand new amps and the Dabeck sounded much better, so it wasn't the age of the electronics in this case that was making the difference.

So I get the sensation in both cases that the circuit board was one of the factors, not just caps, speakers, age of electronics, tubes, etc. But I guess there is really no way to know for sure without anayzing individual components.

How much of a factor would changed in wiring be?

By that I mean that newer amps maybe using different alloys/compounds/metals than the wiring in vintage amps.

The same might also apply to guitar wiring ie: pickups.

Just a theory I am floating but can't back up with anything resembling knowledge 😁
