My Jazzmaster (USA 62 re-issue) seems to get quite a bit of noise. I know this is par for the course of owning one of these, but at times it seems really uncontrollable--such as when I play with even a small amount of overdrive.
The thing is, when my volume knob is on 10, this noise is significantly lessened. Why is this? This might help explain:
"One of the significant differences between Jazzmasters and other Fenders is that the main tone and volume controls use 1 Meg ohm pots. When set on 10, these pots do not roll off much signal. The result is more high end and presence than you are use to hearing on an electric guitar. The extra treble can be annoying if you use an amp that can reproduce high end treble (like a blackface Fender amp). On Fender tweed amps that extra treble is nowhere near as noticeable. "

Is there anything I can do about this? I'd like to have more options than just playing on 10.
How do professionals record using overdrive on a Jazzmaster if there is always going to be noise?
