Let us know how this turns out. I love vintage 24" Fender necks and wanted to build a similar project.
For some reason i am also suspicious that this wont work, i seem to remember this being asked years ago. having said that, a surface mounted hardtail (with no string-thru) is easily moveable. But living with a gap between the pickguard and bridge is the price to pay.
