Depends on which route I decide to take....so I picked other for both...
If I want gain, I like an EMG 81 at the Bridge and an SA 1 in the neck. I always prefer a weaker neck pickup to keep the sound tight.
However, if I'm going passive, nothing to me beats a Jazzmaster in the neck and a good slightly overwound (SD EVH or Duncan Super II 1981 style) in the bridge.
Both setups work with a treble bleed, and the EMG one can emulate some strat settings depending upon the guitar.
However, if we are to talk about my "random builds" which are usually pawnship prizes and such, then whatever I might use can and does change a lot. I don't really hold loyalty to one brand or model of pickup.
