Mustang in the shop

Earlier in the year my funds got drained for other more important things, but my Mustang Comp is FINALLY in the shop for some serious TLC.

Full setup

fret level and polish (maybe)

New nut (maybe)

Wiring check (for repairs I did as a kid)

Neck mounted correctly

I'm waiting on a call from the luthier to go over the work needed.

Its funny. I put it up on the counter and opened the case... like moths to a flame. It just drew a crowd. Like the salesman said, you don't see these every day. Another guy said, and its a custom color too. I didn't know orange was a custom color. 😆

the orange, red and blue, were the stock colors for the compstang series, altho orange is by far the rarest of them all.

what was wrong with the nut?

From what I heard the Mustang didn't have any custom colors to choose from like the Music-Master did.

I know. This other sales guy comes over and started drooling over her, looking down the neck, telling me all about my guitar, then he dropped the custom orange statement. I almost corrected him, then just let him go. Why bother.

The nut had a couple of small nicks on the headstock side (damaged long before I got it). It never caused me any playing issues. He (same guy who said orange was custom) suggested a new one. I'll wait for the luthier to make that call. She should be home sometime next week.

Well I got the call.

- Full setup

Done

- Fret level and polish

After cleaning and conditioning the fretboard, he said a couple of frets "loosened up". I assume he meant raised due to swelling. So he dressed the effected frets.

- New nut

the nut was redressed and is full functional as is.

- Wiring check (for repairs I did as a kid)

he corrected a few things inside

- Neck mounted correctly

Corrected the neck angle

Along with a complete cleaning and polish of the guitar. Total cost: $107.00 USD

I will be picking her up tonight for some fun at the shore.

You know ANY one can learn how to do 1,4&5 in half an hour?!?!?!?

I know it didn't cost that much but still, every one should be able to set up their guitars and adjust truss rods, intonation etc. That way you get it set up how YOU like it and how YOU think it should be, not set up like some other guy thinks it should be.

Most luthiers/techs don't know sh!t about mustang/jaguar/bronco tremolo/vibrato and bridge systems anyways.

Guitar setups and maintenance is basic, and more than that, its satisfying doing it yourself.

If you need help there's plenty of help on these two sites, these two sites but mainly the first two links is how I learnt to set up Jaguar vibratos, I learnt to set up mustang vibratos on my own cause there was no info around at the time, or I couldn't find any anyways.

Thanks for the info, but like I said, she needed some work done that I didn't feel up to snuff on doing myself (with or without instructions). So into the luthier she went.

That being said, all I can say is wow, what a difference! No buzzes, stays in tune, sounds great and rings clear. A little higher action than before, but no complaints. She is still esay to play.
