Jaguar Modding Questions...

Hey guys, first post on the forum, be nice!

So after 6 years of owning my CIJ jaguar, i'm completely modding most of it, and I have some questions...

1. I've heard that the jag body won't take a 25.5" scale neck , as the bridge won't intonate, is this true? I'd love to pop a strat neck on it, with block inlays.

2. Is there anywhere I can get a plate to replace the pickups selector plate with a single 3 way toggle switch plate?

3.Does anywhere sell Jaguar pickguards with Humbucker hole spacings, or would I have to cut one from a standard replacemenet pickguard?

4. I'm refinishing the body, suggestions for a new colour? 😀 bear in mind i'm keping the headstock Candy Apple Red.

The rest of the plans are, if anybody is curious...

1. Refinish the body,

2. Replace the dual circuitry with les paul style circuitry (the rollers will become volume and tone for the neck pickup, and the knobs volume and tone for the bridge pickup)

3. Fit a bigsby trem,

4. Replace neck with strat neck (if it's possible)

5. New pickups (still to be decided).

So far i've got as far as sanding the body down to bare wood. can't wait to get this baby primed!

WHOAH!! A lot of work!

I started off my js project along the lines of what you did and I'd highly suggest building a body yourself. A strat neck won't fit because the intonation would be out. However, you could move the bridge to make up for the intonation. although a jackson/ibanez (or similar) 24 fret one would fit with some major modification to the heel of the neck (not something I'd recomend though)

What I'd do is just go the whole hog and build a new guitar which is what I did. Also, you'd want to fill in the tremolo route to fit the bigsby.

Yes, its true, you cant put strats scale (25.5") necks on 24" scale guitars(jaguars and mustangs etc)

Like I said, number 4 is NOT possible if you want to keep the stock appearance of your jaguar. It is possible if you move the bridge back but then the pickguard wont fit etc etc. Which causes all sorts of horrible looking problems IMO, it totally ruins the aesthetics of a jaguar.

ahh well i'm not too bothered about the neck issue, it'd be more about the aesthetics rather than playability, i'll stick with the good ol' jag neck 😀

What are you gonna be doing with the switch on the plate with the rollers? Killswitch? Strangle? Coil-Split (If you're gonna be puttin' humbuckers in)?

It'd be cool to copy the rhythm/lead switch on Hofner Violin Basses, which is something like a 12.5db (dunno for sure just read it somewhere a while ago) passive volume boost.

I'd put phasing in it. I have phasing for that switch in my jaguar, its got HB's and sounds really cool.
