Pardon my ignorance but what is the zero fret?

( i realise i shall no doubt slap my forehead when realising my complete muppetry when the obviousness of afore mentioned feature is explained). 😕

Some people believe that a zero fret takes some of the ringiness out of the sound of open strings, because when using a guitar that employs a zero fret your open strings are essentially a regular note that is always fretted. The best the best way to try this out for yourself is to put a capo on your guitar and strum a few root position chords (moved up to where you placed the capo of course). You might notice that the unfretted notes blend in better with the rest of the notes in the chord, which is essentially the function of the zero fret.

i knew what it was as soon as i saw it. . i used open strings quite a lot and i use them cos of the different sound/tone so that wld suck for me

I'm pretty sure that's why they're not the most common things in the world.

yeah . . funnily enough, whever i saw that. . i though it was a budget way to produce gutiars. . and that it only appeared on budget guitars. . . but now i know 😁

I intend to use a Strat scale neck but with a 3 a-side headstock, and i am going to reshape the headstock like a Mosrite. As long as it looks right i dont mind, i never intended to copy it exact. I dont have the cash/ or the skillz.
If there is money left ant the end of the project i would like to fit a DiMarzio FS-1 as that was the pickup Johnny used.

Yes, it is the Eastwood Guitars Johnny Ramone tribute Mosrite. It's the blue sparkle version as opposed to the white, but it still looks, plays, and sounds killer. It's been hanging on the wall for almost a year, and everyone at the shop is surprised it's still around as most people that play it love it. The action is unbelievably low with fret buzz only showing up when strummed super hard. Very smooth playing guitar...

i can't stand the way open strings sound relative to fretted ones. zero nut ftw!

Yeah, on some guitars it really is an apparent difference. I know Aug was a fan of the Zero Fret and used it on all his designs.

I got the bridge and tail piece posts fitted, im going to start priming it today.

Have been busy at work all this week so im anxious to get on with this.

I'm about finished with the primer. Just needs a sand down then its the top colour.

My friend with the air brush is away until next weekend so there is no rush as i want to use the air brush for the final lacquer coat.

Theres plenty of work to do on the neck as well.

Jesus christ, your a face from the past. If Mezzio, Doog, etc where still around here they'd be pleased to see you! 😉

Im thinking of using yacht varnish applied with the air brush. It sounds odd i know but it worked well on the Jag-Stang i built.
