the idea of hidden humbuckers, within original jazzy pup covers is pretty cool.

those jag pickups look (and probably are) dead on with 60's ones too

I haven't tried them but...I know about winding.

I'm working in an industry that winds transformers.

And I know that a good winding machine winds much more better than what you can do by hand.

Maybe these pups are good cause the person seems to know what he's doing but the whole thing about hand winding is only for advertisement.

I wound too by hand but it make sense only when you wind with thick wires.All the pups are with thin or very thin wires.You can't control thin wires by hand.New well designed winding machines can wind very well wires down to 0.05mm!

Notice that I'm saying new well designed machines.So maybe Leo Fender was right but maybe he was reffering to old machines. 😆

Anyway I don't want to be bad.Maybe these pups are good and seems that they are.But the whole thing about hand winding doesn't make sense to me.

i think people like handwound pickups because of the variability in their manufacture, it's what gives each old fender it's own character (not always in a good way).

When they say "hand wound", I don't think they mean someone sat there and wound it all on with their actual hands. I reckon they just use a low tech winding device where they can monitor the winds as they're putting them on.

I beleive so.

There's a luthier lives near me and he showed me how he makes his pups, its like an old modified manual sewing machine that he operates the rotation by foot pedal and feeding/guiding the copper wire in by hand. The inconsistency that its fed in results in 'scatterwound'.

I just wondered if anyone had tried the novaks, the Jag pups seem to be popular over at FDP.

charlie christian was a jazzbo widely hailed as being the first notable electric guitarist. the blade pickup that these are based on came in the Gibson ES-150, one of the first electric guitars commercially available, it debuted in 1937 and charlie started using it right away.

the idea of having a charlie christian style pickup in a tele floored me, hence the "yes please" with a 'fukking' thrown into the middle for emphasis and good measure.

the pickup was huge underneath the guitar's top, those 3 screws between it and the bridge are for height adjustment.
