That's a silly thing to say.
Deliberatly trying NOT to follow society is just as square as deliberately following it. Your position in life comes from your attitudes, opinions, morals and beliefs, not from hair.
If you need your hair to tell your story for you, then you are already on a road to failing in your intentions.
Besides, what is wrong with society that you feel you must show "disrespect" toward it?
If you don't respect anything, nothing will respect you either.
Then again, I was 13 and confused once too...
