Fender Musicmaster

Just wondering if anyone owns any of the varying models of Musicmaster, I am VERY interested in getting this axe as a compliment alongside my heavily modded Jaguar. Be GREAT to have something completing the opposite, simple and solid!

A few questions - which year/age range is the best one to aim for for a)quality, b)tone, c)lightness, d)reliability. Also as some of the older guitars are available in 22 inch scale over the 24 inch scale which scale plays the best (I have average size hands - play a 24 inch jaguar so used to short scale), I play a lot of funk/punk/palm mutes/arpeggiated riffs/two hand tapping.

Currently have inquired about a few early 70's models and have good prices for them - want to make totally sure before I take the dive for one!

P.S. This will be played and gigged a lot! I love this guitar for it's simple neck only tone (mellow!), and because it's just a bit different!

The vintage models are becoming increasingly expensive for what they are, i did have two, a 76 and 78 model which if i remember rightly were almost identical. The decal changed sometime in the 70s from Musicmaster to Music Master, nothing else as far as i know.

The Squier models are difficult to find and the Vista version has just a bridge humbucker so that is'nt much use to you.

You may be better off looking at the new Squier 'classic vibe' Duo models, pretty much the same thing plus a bridge single coil. Or pay

i personally like the original musicmaster (pre 1964)

a 1958-1961 desert sand model would be one of the "holy grails" of guitars for me.

the holy grail of all basses for me would be the Fender Bass V. That thing is WILD.

I like Squier Vista Musicmasters, with one bridge 'bucker and a coiltap / volume knob as it's sole control...

You should get a Classic Vibe Duo, then get a black Musicmaster pg off of http://www.wdmusic.com and mount the duo bridge pickup on it with some white strat knobs. And then you could sand off the lacquer on the headstock, remove the decal, replace it with a Musicmaster decal, and relacquer the headstock. Voilla, instant Musicmaster....... Wow that'd be pretty epic.

i just bought one of those vintage vibe duos for 100 bucks. i plan on making a new guard and addressing the bridge pup issue.

perhaps i will re-decal it and tint it, but im going to play it and see if its worth all the extra work first.

either way i know it still won't hold a candle to my 59 duo.

Found some really lovely 72/74's recently for sale, prices are around 600-800 depending.

There is the MOST GORGEOUS 74 one in AUS! I am tempted to get it shipped over, totally standard with the most amazing yellow colour I have ever seen. The guys said it was originally cream but didn't say it was re-coloured - I'm thinking it is as cream wouldn't fade to that colour!. WILL BE ABOUT 850 INCLUDING POSTAGE!! (I am in the UK, bargin)

What do you guys think? I'm pretty sure this is my CURRENT dream guitar, exactly!

I'm now told that it is original white that has faded, WOW! Although I am interested as hell with this guitar I have found one in Europe mainland (closer to me) which is 100 gbp cheaper in faded white (shame about tort PG).

So if anyone wants the details on this guitar and store selling it in Aus let me know, I can't justify paying the extra money when there is one on my door!

Went ahead and took the plunge into buying a new Squier Duo Sonic, WOW... this thing is truly amazing!

Don't let the Squier name tag put you off, this axe is FRIGGIN' AMAZING, I mean, it's tone is out of this world considering it's cost. The guitar is also small bodied and LIGHT AS HELL, my normal short scale lovin' at 24 inch. Tuners initially had problems, that is until I bunged on my signature 0.11 gauge flatwounds, the guitar now stays in key amazingly for a cheap axe. The thing is SO basic, I love it, in fact I am actually taking out the selector and bridge pickup and making it into a Musicmaster!!

So, along with my "Musicmaster-ing" of it I am also added a pearl pickguard, might also look at either a black pup cover or a white one, the cream one looks a bit gay with the cream body when there is a peal/white pickguard. Anyhoo, this guitar has taken place OVER my Jazz-uar now as it is TOO easy to play the neck is TOO fast and it is TOO light, I think I'm in love! Now if only I could afford the vintage Fender one...
