My new Jaguar (CIJ/JGS/HH)

Dear All

my newest toy

I always liked the Jaguar shape,tried to get a used one(unbelieveble prices)

and finally pulled the trigger and bought a Jaguar Special(JGS) new in Japan

Basically the short scale(24" instead of my Tele and Strats 25,5"")needs a a bit of attention(not too much though)

Also the 7,25" radius is new to me (no deal at all) and Humbuckers,silent,Dragster-J.They are OK as far as I can say nice tone variety very responsive a bit muddy in the bottom(compared to my other HB Bluesbuckers) but I am not the HB specialist

If I compare to my MIA Strats (1 CS ,1 Hwy1,1 G&L) I can say(unfair competition its not apple to apple)

Wood workmanshift equal or over MIA

Wood:MIA over CIJ-->alder or ash against basswood

Neck-->perfect MIA/CIJ on par

Neck wood-->MIA is better

Rosewood-->Depends but my MIA's are better darker

Hardware on par or a bit lower then MIA(MIA is chromed stainless steel while CIJ is polished stainless steel

Switches,etc-->CIJ above MIA but switches etc are a bit more tiny fragile so question is how long they will last under heavy gigin(which I don't do anymore)

There is no buzz whats so ever

Factory setup-->Bad

Standard strings-->very bad

Newest Gotoh Jaguar bridge(always an Jaguar issue)-->known issue,better then a real Jaguar bridge still strings jump out

But I did expect this 3 issues and accepted ahead of the purchase

Now this is a 900 Euro Guitar including shipping and (high) European import cost(170 of the 900).I guess you will have to compare to 1100-1150 USD so on par with MIA guitars

From now on I will

explore its tone

change to Flatwound 11's (From 9s to the original intended strings)

Still not sure on the bridge but 11s may cure the jump

The first song I played was Petite Fleur by Chris Barber and it was simply great

hehe, nice. Love the colour. I have a JGS too, but it's sunburst (also with humbuckers). What dyou think about the neck? I'm thinking it's a bit thick. I'm considering having the neck shaved by a luthier, though that would also mean a neck refinish (options....). I always thought the bridge was a standard Adjust-o-matic (fender's TOM rip-off), is that incorrect? By the way, I also noticed the low end was a bit crappy with these humbuckers, still planning to change them.

Neck I am fine but my fingers are not so tiny

Bridge is new Gotoh Japan-->still no ringer though-->which is a kind of T.O.M

Low end yes but catually the pickups are much better then their forum reputation

IF I change then also the single ply plastic pickguard will go the only cheap (looking) component on the JGS

Other then this it stands any comparison to my CS Stratocaster

Get a W/B/W pickguard and regular knobs on there!! Cool finish too.

my next investments are

3 layer pickguard in Black perloid-->the black one has scratches allready seems to be soft

New (old) knob's--not so childish

But I wait a bit until I am totally sure (not yet although good)wether I like the stock pickups.If then I move I move to coiltap anyway

I cannot say I hate them I am basically an SSS Strta guy so my HB experience is low.I recently started to play cover of Santana(and I am not in Gibsons or PRS) so I needed a Neck HB

First try was a HH Tele

Good guitar but I am to stupid or too old to play the Tele perfectly(every bit of sloopy playing you can hear ,totaly unforgiving)

I was always a bit in love with Jaguar shape,played one(SS) and found it perfectly fitting to me.Then I bought the red one in Japan

For Sanatan(Tone rolled to mid/mid cut not on) the Dragster J work very good

I love it!

The sunburst red, black pickguard, chrome humbuckers... It all goes so well together. I kind of wish maybe I got my guitar done like that.
