need help, might be an idiot

now then, having made ever guitar building mistake with my jag i'm at it again and ive gone and bought a squier strat for parts.

then i shat my pants cause i dont actually know if its a good example of a squier, i have noticed it has a small headstock, 22 frets and big block saddles.

it seems to match the affinity series, which ive heard is the good one but says its made of agathis, which i hear is crap

Affinity's have big headstocks and 21 frets.

The Affinity series strats are actually made of Alder. As for Agathis, it's very similar to basswood, so no probs there.

It sounds like you may have the Squier Strat, the one that came with the SE-100 strat pack. If so, I bought one a few days ago, and in the few hours I had before I tore it apart, I found it to be a VERY good little guitar 😀

edit: By the way, if it IS the SE-100 strat, then it's made of agathis or basswood.

It might be a Bullet model. Everything is fine on then except the neck and tuners in my opinion.

well i tried to bail out of it but i failed as i came home and found a big box in the hall.

having played it actually i can see it is pretty decent, pickups arent the best but they wont be, the neck feels like a piece of prefabricated travel lodge funiture but plays absolublty fine and the tuners feel loose but hold just fine.

i had planned on just changing the neck, pickups and tuners and pickguard, the idea of buying this was to circumvent the need for buying all the little bits and bobs other than the neck and pickups but its the body i'm bothered out, i know it'll bug me that inside its a cheapo and not a real piece of ash or alder.

cant be too hard to unload a brand new squier for

well i took it into the shop to have it ID'd and evaluated, its basially a POS model, like the low end series and not worth much more than what i bought it for, looks like i did indeed make a total idiot choice. its not staying.

anyway this got me thinking, i might just buy a stock mexican strat and tweak it a little, not not at all depending.

what can ppl tell me about mexican strats?

Well, pull the Squier apart and sell it piece by piece. I guarantee you will turn a profit.

Dunno anything about Mexican strats personally.

ok, so i walk out of my room and up to the kitchen to grab a cuppa tea and a cookie. i open the door walk past a beat up 60's strat. turn on the kettle. then it clicked, i don't own a 60's strat not to mention i am poor and so is my family (well poor enough not to go around buying guys without lots of thought) so my dad walks in and picks it up and hands it to me. low and behold its a MIM road warn, i can tell you this think had me fooled until i turned it over some of the wood on the back looked a little fake (something about the way the wood has been striped away). not to mention the huge sticker saying "ROAD WORN STRAT!!" but let me tell you this this is bloody great it has a great feel to it, and it sounded farking Great. it was just soooo nice. get one if you can. i have also heard that the newer MIM's are just getting better and better.

road worn strats suck. . they look so fake

MIM strats are good. . many ppl say that the difference between the MIM and MIA isnt too much compared to the price.

Personally, I would get a used MIM. . if you look around and find one cheap.

if you just want to destroy it. . get a squier one or keep the one you have

but the MIM ive played have been good, especially the classic players 60s strat, which is bloody amazing.

i think they look as convincing as any relic guitar does, and congrats foxy thats a definite win.

my question is how do they compare to highway ones? because highway ones are "kind of" american made, where as the road worn are mexican and yet they are more expensive

Congrats Foxy. Killer Score there. I played a Road Worn Strat the last time I was at Guitar Center (which is the same day I got addicted to the Vox AC15CC1) and it absolutely RAWKED. Sounded great and played amazing. did look a little fake though, I think they don't put as much effort into the Road Worn guitars as they do in the Custom Shop Relics. I'm sure that on a dimly lit stage though it'd pass for an authentic vintage strat.

i think they look really good until you look closely at the body. from a distance from the front they look real.

i can find nothing wrong with it at all, i think its the aged hardware that makes it more convincing.

always wanted a road worn they look cool in the pics but i suppose they look different in the flesh.
