i went to a gig, last? night. the bass player of one of the bands used this. it sounded fvcking sick. i bet everything sounds good played through a valve Sunn head and 8x10 cab.

I used the bluesberry hotcake for about a year, sounded great, very transparent and a lot of boost, I just wasn't a fan of it's drive character. It sounds better pushing an amp that's already breaking up then as a stand alone drive unit in front of a clean channel.

I've never believed that anything other than a fuzzbox could sound good w/out pushing the amp some. Do you use any ODs w/out pushing the amp?

Well overdrives push the amp when they are engaged so of course the amp is pushed when the pedal is on. But I play through an 85 watt twin which is clean from top to bottom, it starts to get a very slight breakup around 10 but it's minimal and at that point is so incredibly loud that it is not fun to play, at most gigs I keep the amp at about 4 or 5 but at small gigs 3 is sometimes pushing it. As a result I have a plethora of drives and clean boost that I have to use in varying combinations to front load the pre-amp into distortion without getting too loud. Twins can be a real pain in the ass! I've tried the removing tubes trick but it makes the tone of the amp brittle and harsh.

One day I'll have it ab'd with a nice tweed era style amp, but ad if now it's what I've got, and I have yet to play an amp whose clean tones I prefer.

overdrives don't push the amp when the volume is turned down... one thing i tried today was strapping my bassman, with a dano OD between the guitar channel, and the bass channel, that turned out great.

a big problem i'm having right now is getting a good OD tone, and fuzz tone. i use a russian muff, which sounds great with the mids on the amp cranked, but that brings out the mids too much in my Duncan Twin Tube Blue... they really should've had a 3-knob tone stack, or at least a separate tonestack for each channel...

Yeah man fender amps all have their little quirks, they're beautiful in their simplicity but often limited in what they can do. I'm convinced that fenders still are the best clean amps, but I'm still on the market for that gritty more midrangey amp to pair with it. Have you ever seen or played one of the fender custom shop vibro kings? They're supposed to have great cleans and harmonic content but also can be pushed into smooth breakup. Only problem is they cost 3gs, but that's not as bad as a two rock or Fuchs.
