Squier Pro tone strat

A mate of mine has one; crimson transparent with gold hardware. He got it a number of years ago with a small marshall amp for 300 quid. He doesn't really play guitar that much, and wants to get rid of it. I've offered 150 for the guitar alone (I don't want the amp), do you think that's a decent offer? I've seen these go for a lot more on ebay.

Condition wise it's great, only a small chip slightly obscured by the trem cover.

No, it's one of the normal ones with american pickups. It does have gold hardware though, I don't think the other strat finishes have that.

If you get it for 150 quid youve got yourself a good deal. The pro-tone squier's fall into that "it could've said Fender on the headstock" bracket, you dont see them for sale often and i remember when they came out the guitar mags raved on about them being great and 'serious' squier's. i hope you get it.

Is it the one with the pearloid scratchplate?

I'm more than aware of the Pro-Tone's status, and I've played on this one before (albeit upside down). I've set it up for him in the past too.

i remember the pro-tones.

they were awesome. they played and sounded better than mexican standard fender strats.

$150 is a steal, it's worth at least the price of that vista series crap everyone's so crazy about.

My mate had a Telecaster Pro-Tone, while I wasn't a fan of the gold hardware and that, it was an amazing guitar, do it! perhaps go $175ish though, you don't want to totally rip him off.

Pounds, Bob, and yeah he's a good mate, so I don't want to rip him off. Fact is he doesn't play it, and wants to get rid of it, and I want to make sure someone else doesn't get their filthy mits on it.

It's been a while (nearly 3 years since I asked for the guitar), but I finally bought the strat off him today. Included was a Marshall Park series G15RCD; a fairly nice little amp. I've already converted it to left hand, and will post some pics soon.

Thats a nice looking guitar - nice colour.

I bet it plays as good as any USA strat !
