how does the low cut work on a jaguar?

hi everyone,

i'm considering building my own guitar (don't ask) using seymour duncan hot rails and sjag-1 pickups (one of each). i'd like to make the wiring like a jaguar, built with only the lead circuit: an on/off switch for each pick-up, and a low cut switch.

my question: how does the low-cut circuit work?

and how should i wire the pickups if i'm not making a second circuit like a jaguar normally has?

The low cut puts a capacitor in series with the pickups. The cap in my jaguar had no markings but the old schematic on the Seymour Duncan site suggested that it is .003 micro farads. However their new schematic says it's value is .03(?) but I think this is wrong. I'm sure I've seen a Fender schematic which also said it is 0.003

To not have a rhythm circuit you would take the yellow wire from the neck pickup and connect it to the neck pickup switch on the diamond plate, where the orange wire from the lead/rhythm switch would normally connect.

All you are doing is routing the sound in series through the capacitor. The cap is like a bottleneck, only allowing a certian part of the frequency to pass through, which gives you a "cut" filter. The smaller the value, the less goes through.

It's to do with the charge time of the capacitor versus the frequency of the alternating current from the pickups. A tone pot works by allowing the frequencies that the capacitor can pass to bleed to ground (the frequencies above it's freshold), whereas the cap on the skinny switch, being in series with the pickups, allows frequencies above it's threshold to pass to the output while filtering out those below.

No idea, looks like operatating temperature specs? Is there anything on the other side? Mine is japanese and has a film capacitor in there with no markings at all.

we wanted to make sure we have the cap values that sound best for the
guitar. on the fender caps, the numbers at the top (332, 103) denote
the
electrical value of the cap. when it's shown this way its either in
joules
or it's electrical shorthand with the last number showing how many
decimals go to the left(can't remember which). thanks for the input.

just to say that i was emailed by guitarpartsresource about something. and this subject cropped up. so i'll just log it here for future reference
