Another bridge question :-/.

I'm really sorry if this has been asked before, but I've checked and have found nothing. Will any recent mustang bridge fit my MIJ Jaguar? As I've heard there are a lot of differences between the MIJ and the MIA Jags. I don't want to spend the money then realise it doesn't fit.

Mustangs and Jaguars have the same brigde...the only difference being the saddles. So yes.

You could try filing the grooves more.

jaguar saddles look cooler, jsut file those bad boys down and raise tha ction to compensate.

one problem with the Japanese/aftermarket Mustang saddles, is that they are not as wide as the American Mustang saddles were. This means there is a gap inbetween each one. Allowing them to slide from side to side on the assey somewhat. This shouldn't present a major problem, but is a minor annoyance. It is also a design flaw that has been passed down to the Graph-Tech "Stringsaver" and "TUSQ" saddles, which are intended for Jazzmaster and Jaguar bridge asseys. Graph-Tech obviously designed their saddles after Japanese Mustang saddles. They have been contacted and told, but no change seems likely, now that the current specification stands in place. The same is true with Fender Japan's Mustang saddles.

I don't know why you've got a problem with the Jaguar bridge, mine is absolutely fine, however if you can't find your Mustang bridge, how about a buzz stop?

My stock bridge is fine as well, but it did take a little work to get it that way. Still, its original and it beats forking out for a Mustang bridge.

Jimmy, if you scroll through the previous pages in this forum you should find countless threads on the Jag bridge and different remedies for the problem.

Thanks for the help guys, but I really cant stand the stock Jag bridge, as the saddles are all uneven, both of the E string saddles stick up at an angle because the screws wont go in properly, it just frustrated me so much that I didn't play my Jag anymore. I need to get recording an album with my band, so I ordered the mustang bridge yesterday, I am just hoping it fits.

I actually set my top E string saddle at an angle to stop the string jumping out. As for the grub screws...did you purchase the guitar second hand? I'm wondering if a previous owner may have used 'Loc-tite' glue to stop the screws working themselves loose.

Anyway, a bit irrelevant now...good luck with the 'stang bridge.

Even though the bridge is ordered, me and my Dad worked on the bridge today, turned out that the saddles were so high that the screws wouldn't go in properly. He filed down the saddles in the middle, and used lock tite (sp?) on the grub screws. I'm going to see how it goes, as it would be nice to have the original bridge on, if it fails, I'll stick the Mustang bridge on.

Cool, good form 😉

The saddles are there to intonate and copy the curvature of the fretboard theres no reason for them to be way high when you can raise the bridge (posts). If you check Ricks site theres plenty of info on setting the saddles correctly.

Another quick question, is the trem "stiffness" just preference, or does it have to be a certain stiffness?

Just preference, i have mine set fairly loosely for shimmers and chord gliding but i use the trem lock as well so, i cant pull the trem upwards and if i break a string it stays in tune. If you tighten the trem tension screw the guitar will be like a 'hardtail'.
