i have a pete townshend sig gibson SG with p-90 and i love it to death! Though it isnt mint anymore cause of the two, one inch dings in the headstock.*tear tear* But SG's rock!

im not a gibson guy, i mean i like the firebird, i also think that the gold top lespaul is a nice looking guitar, but i dont like the feel of most sgs i play, the sg classic or whatever with the two p-90s plays alright, sounds alright, but needs a tremelo!

I hate the way they don't balance at all because the strap pin is behind the neck butt. I've played a number of Gibson and Epiphone SG's and the only one I liked was the Epi SG Juniour but even that wasn't something I'd buy. But still, there's no accounting for taste, I know a lot of very happy SG owners.

I like SG's, i've had three one of which was a Gibbo. Imo they have a more cutting tone than Les Pauls, they're lighter on the shoulder and can cover most guitar styles. Fair enough the trem may be missed but there are models with bigsby's on them.

The epiphone models are good value for money, Yamaha have a good range and Guild had one available that was decent (Kim Thayil used one).

Townsend, Iommi and Agata (melt banana) are my favourate SG users.

I've played a sg classic before and it was great, i've played regular SG's as well and they were good but not as great as the SG classic.

love em. I think it's been said they're very lightweight guitars, which I like a lot. Although, imo they are probably the worst-balanced guitars out there. And don't even think about neglecting straplocks, or you'll wind up with a broken neck. I play one, and have gotten used to the balancing issue though, and I think they're a great lightweight alternative to a les paul, which I can't play standing up for any length of time.

and a p90 sg is pure tone heaven.

I have always loved the look of them, and I was really keen to get one until my mate got one and I actually played it! Nothing super bad about them, they do sound OK, but I don't think they cut through the mix as well as a LP,V or Explorer, kind of a bit thin sounding.I have only heard one with stock pups, an upgrade in that department may improve them a little, but I think the thin sound is partly due to the thin lightweight body.One other thing I noticed, maybe it was only the one I played, but the bridge pup was very noisy.

they're great, when i was a kid the '61 style red sg was my dream guitar and i had an epi g-400. i'm more of a fender guy these days, and seeing as how an LP standard costs more than ANY sg, including that lovely '61 re-issue, i must've been able to afford one for MONTHS and passed it by. so either i'm not as crazy about SG's as i used to be or i just like the LP a lot more. i find them slightly less playable than pauls (weight and body shape issues aside).

all the SG specials and p-90'd ones still excite me.

I have an SG standard and I love it. It really is super lightweight, it's even lighter than my mustang! It sounds awesome, feels awesome and plays awesome! I really like the SG classics also.

I'm very tempted right now to get an sg standard. they're just nice looking guitars with the binding, blocks, and the ol' heritage cherry

I don't reckon much to the Standards, if I was to get an SG it'd be a '61 reissue.

agreed, as far as classic gibsons go the '61 is a steal.

I just don't like how the pickups are mounted on the scratch plates of the Standards.

I've always thought SGs look cool, and came close to buying one once. However, all the ones I've ever tried out have been pretty nasty to play and sounded a bit boxy...
