This has always been my opinion, spring reverb was never meant to sound great or natural, it was just a cheap and effective way of adding depth to a dry guitar tone in old amps. Now with the vintage craze there's this fallacy that spring reverb somehow sounds natural or better than other type of reverb because old tube amps used it and old tube amps sound better. It sounds totally harsh and fake to my ears, with an icepick in the high end that cant be dialed out.
And buying a pedal to imitate spring reverb seems even more foolish to me when there are plenty of pedals out there that sound better than spring reveb, and have a lot more control over the depth, tone, delay, and decay time.
