Crate Blue Voodoo!!

It seems that I will never be able to afford the alchemist and I'm looking at some cheaper alternatives. I want the head, not the combo - Heads are better according to reviews, much more reliable too. The 60w version of this sounds pretty cool... Also it has a line out so I don't even need a mic 😬

Anybody had any experience with these??

*And before you say crate=####e, I've heard this thing on youtube and I'd even go as far as saying it beats the bogner hands down

60 watts will blow your house down.

if you get all your effects/tone from your me-50 you may aswell just invest in a small clean amp.

i would however, recommend the orange tiny terror for you. . you would love it

Totally wrong tone. Because you said that, I'll call you Toby from now on.

And aparently those crates don't make any noise. I once tried out a V33 and it was fine. Also, Our very own mad-mike once said that the 120w couldn't keep up with a 75w peavey transistor.

... I was under the impression you already had one? Or have I not kept up with all the "it's on its way/ it's at my dad's house/ work/ whatever/ I'll have it next week..."?

They're out of production.

The nice blue one I showed stopped in like 2003 and the remake of that which wasn't even blue was stopped in 2007

Wierd... I was looking at the spec sheet and there's 3 12AX7s in the preamp and another in the power section as well the 2 6l6s..... ???

Job is tricky because I'm 15 and so I've got 6 months to go before I can get decent wages legally. Paper/leaflet distribution is a no-go because all the jobs are taken. And I've saved like hell to get to this much, so I won't be going any further ☹

my best friend has the head and cab set-up, and i think it sounds great personally. he's into metal and 90's alternative and this thing nails it. he had been such a hard sell on natural tube distortion and relied so much on his line 6 spider combo that when he finally admitted to loving this i finally felt content. i've played on it a lot and it stood up tone wise to my mark 2 as well as volume wise. the drive channel is great, sounds very marshallish to me. it is very well rounded from my experience. if you've got the money and just want an amp right this second i'd say go for it

That triode/pentode thing is the same thing they have on the alchemist (the 20/40w setting)

what about a peavey valve king, those things have a fair amount of gain (as far as i can remember).

I remember hearing someone on one of those in a shop. I couldn't stand it,

Anyway, I'm happy with this! But I've heard about reliablility issues with certain ones.

From what I've heard, the one I'm getting on evilbay is the best and that these problems only seem to apply to the post 1996 model ones.

When I played in Lithium the Rhythm Guitarist had one towards the end of things. It eventually blew a tube and took the transformer with it. Also, I was outblowing him with his 75 watt solid state Peavey Special 130, he had the Crate on 10, I had the Peavey on 3.

I just made a best offer on that damn thing!

Didn't he not bias the tubes or not replace them or something? The crate manual says you must replace the power tubes at least once a year. And most people say they're plenty loud.
