Hello again.
I am replacing the bridge pickup in my 51 after it died. I'm dropping in a GFS Vintage 59.
I had a wonderful sounding humbucker in the 51, but after I installed a new cap and tone control, the pickup sounded awful. It went from being balanced and grunty, to being shrill and trebly.
My plan is to install the new pickup and to create a tone bypass option on the pickup selector. So I will have neck/bridge with tone and cap/bridge open.
It doesn't seem like this would be hard to do, but I know nothing about wiring, and I want to avoid taking the guitar to the luthier to do the work.
Can anyone point me in the direction of wiring diagrams or anything like that?
Also, should I run the humbucker through its own .22 cap, or is the .47 ok? I suspect the .47 had a lot to do with the ruination of the sound of the previous pickup.
