Hi guys, I'm new to the board, seems to be a nice place.

I bought a jagstang today, it's a 1997 model, in really good shape, it's definitely a player.

I compared it quickly to my Ibanez JS-100 upgraded with a SB SH-4 in the bridge and a SH-1 in the neck position and to my surprise the stock pickups in the jagstang sounds different but pretty much as good if not better for the stuff I play.

I'll probably try the SH-4 in the jagstang sometime but I don't feel like I HAVE TO do so.

Anyway, my single coil pickup is really noisy, I wonder why, my strat isn't as noisy as that...

Also, the it gets detuned pretty easily, what would be the best, blocking the bridge or replacing the tuners, if so for what?

Last thing is the switches, I don't like what they do.

I red a mod here that makes one switch a pickup selector and the other a controls bypass, volume only and full control: http://www.jag-stang.com/MustangHtml/Im ... ematic.gif

I would like to try something simillar but I'm not sure how and if it's possible.

I'd like to have one switch for the pickup selection and the other for all control bypass, in phase and out of phase (that would only work when both pickups are on)

Is it possible?

Not really and I can still hear it when I play, with my strat I can't hear the buzz that much.

I think it has something to do with the switches cause sometimes the buzz goes away for a second or two and then it comes back.

Have a look at wiring and jiggle the switches around and stuff. Those switches wear out fairly easily.

Also, I'm curious to know why people put a tune-o-matic in there, what does it change?

A lot of people change the bridge on the JS because the Fender "Dynamic Vibrato" is pretty bad unless it is modified. Its a little tough to string the guitar and God forbid you try to use the whammy bar, you will end up horribly out of tune.

Yeah but the tune-o-matic is just a little part of the vibrato, no?

Wouldn't you have to replace the whole vibrato instead to fix entirely the problem?

I think I'll stick with the stock pickup for a while, as weird as it might sound I like them.

The only problem I have with them is that the neck pickup is noisy.

I know it's normal for a single coil to be more noisy than a HH but this one is more noisy than what I'm used to with my strat.

What can I do, check, to make it better?

Add some shielding under the picguard. The JS has practically no shielding so it tends to pickup any and all electro magnetic interference it's exposed to. I can practically guarantee it will quiet down to a level close to yr Strat if you do that.

Thanks for the tip, so this is normal with the jag, anybody else can confirm?

One possibility is that the ground wire is broken somewhere.

It seems to work with the humbucker though...

Not if you strip it down and set it up correctly.

Check out mad mikes thread. I followed it to the tee and mine never goes out of tune unless i give her some srsly abusive abuse.

I did the bridge mod already, I blocked the tremole and taped the pole of the bridge, it works nicely now.

Does anybody know if my wiring mod (described in 1st post) would be possible and how to do it?
