SO IT FINALLY ARRIVED!!! it was great fun sitting on the floor of the office hallway, unpacking the melody maker, with the boys and girl form the other rooms peering through their windows and commenting ... a bit like christmas.
first things first: it looks great, feels great, plays great, not a single bad fret, decent intonation, good string height, well set-up, no flaws in the finish (there are some photos on the net where the finish has a greenish tint, not on mine, very warm sunburst). looks like a great fun instrument!
it actually has a feel similar to martin-style parlour guitars, due to the small, light, resonant (and pretty thin) body, the thin/raw finish on the neck, the bridgy/trebly sound of the pick-up. in fact, it reminds me very much of my brother's 000 lakewood acoustic.
one oy my colleagues has just brought me his son's highway 1 strat for setup, so i'll have two american sunburst guitars to compare, i''ll post more on the sound then. i guess i should take some pics, just to show that the thing really exists, no?
the only thing i miss is, uhm, a neck pickup, but as they say over here, you don't look into the mouth of the horse you got for a present ...
