Jags for playing reggae rhythm?

does anyone on here use a jag for reggae rhythm?

i love the look of jags but dont know if my lust for one is my heart ruling my head 😕😕

any advice would be greatly received

Firstly, welcome to the forum 😁

Secondly, I don't have a Jag, but I don't see why you couldn't play Reggae on one... Couldn't you try one out in a local guitar shop?

My friend uses a Vintage Jag in his Ska band, sounds good. I'd say the Jag is an excellent choice for any clean guitar styles.

The switching options will give you a lot of tone choices, sustain is'nt the Jag's strong point so it will work well skanking. My only concern would be if you have large hands the short scale neck may feel cramped if you play extended chord voicings.

Also, I think this is the first time we've had a reggae player on here... should make this place more interesting cuz now we have another musical point of view which is pretty different than like everyone on here's pov.

i popped into a music shop in liverpool and had a little skank on a jap jag i got pretty much the sound i wanted.

what amps are you guys useing?

my amps are a fender princeton plus and a marshall jcm 600 head and cab

ive been told jags sound great through reverb amps but what about my jcm?

and how much better are the usa models over the jap ones???

I'm using an Vox AC15CC1 as my main amp, it's an awesome amp, but I'm not sure how well it would do for reggae... I play alt-rock, know nothing about reggae, and don't use a Fender Jaguar, which is why I say I'm not sure how well it'd do for your needs. However, it is an awesome amp (as are pretty much all Voxes), and I would recommend trying one out just cuz I like mine so much.

I use my Jaguar for reggae rhythm-stab-work from time to time. Works just fine for that.

With the bands, for that I use the clean channel on a Bugera 333XL with EL34 tubes, at home I'm using a Behringer V-Amp with pretty much any clean sound I have laying around in my patch bank.

The Jag will sound awesome through your Marshall as well as your Fender amp. Its a pro guitar dude 😉

USA models are better as they are more 'correct' as far as a reissue is concerned, whats more the pickups are superior quality compared to the Jap models. But dont let that deceive you, the Jap models are still excellent.
