matching color headstocks

When were the jaguars with matching headstocks first issued? Like the Fiesta Red, Surf Green, Lake Placid Blue, etc.

Usually how much could one of those cost (vintage)? I've been saving up a lot and I usually play strats and wanted to try something different.

I saw a nice looking '65 Fiesta Red one on ebay going for almost 6000. How much does the price increase from '64, '63, '62? Just a question.

matching headstock were put on the on vast majority of custom colours (ie, all colours aside from sunburst and blonde) from the first year of issue ('62).

as for value, there's no real price difference i've seen going from '62-'64. you can pay anything up to 6k for a mint vintage pre '66 jaguar that isn't sunburst

You know when you talk about "custom colours" are you meaning people had to order them say in CAR, otherwise it'd just be sunburst if you just went to a dealer and bought one without being concerned over its finish?

possibly. but i'm not sure. i know that most 60's jaguars are sunburst, and that other colours, off the dupont colour chart, were more expensive. i'm not sure if you had to special order them though. it would've depended on the shops you went to. i suppose a dealer could either order 10 sunburst jaguars, or order 10 jaguars in various colours for 5% more than what he would pay for the sunburst ones. so he could make more profit on the sunbursts and maybe that's why there are many more bursts than custom colours. proll more info here:

Ah right, it's always struck me as quite peculiar how they're referred to as "custom" colours.
