Yeah they do have all the fun, check out what fun you can have if you know someone overseas, the other two are a '65 and '69....
I just snagged a Comp. Lake Placid Blue '73 reissue and check this out...
It really is amazing, flame all up and down the neck, plays perfectly right out of the box, all it needed was a set of 12's and look out. I did pay to play though, no friendly discounts here... damn the thing was expensive but I have been waiting and waiting and waiting and waiting (you scan see how long) for a competition orange (thats right ORANGE) CIJ and then about a month ago an OLB (Comp Lake Placid Blue) showed up on ebay and I fell in love with that color combo and talked myself out of waiting for a Comp Orange...
Then I lose the auction bc I forgot about the Pacific Eastern time difference and I missed it, and thats when time stood still lol..
This japanese guy was selling all the new 73' reissue colors and I went with the LPB instead of the Comp Orange (despite how long I waited for one),
Then on the ebay listing he had described that he had all 6 colors available, and I noticed the listing said 6 abailable when I first checked it out. So I came back the next day ready to buy it now and I did, and in the paypal notes I put that I wanted Lake Blue..., but I was a little worried because when i bought it it said on the ebay counter available, and that one had sold...
So the next day (night) I get an email in Japanglish (in the best possible way, he really did try his best) it said.. HE SOLD THE LAKE PLACID BLUE
So he tells me he can get another one but its gonna take 3 months, so I asked him to see if he could find a used one or maybe speed it up. Then I asked him if they were MIJ or CIJ stupidly assuming since I had just seen one on ebay in the same color from someone else overseas (actually from Austratlia) and that since they're imported that they would all be Crafted in Japan. Turns out (according to the distributer) the whole line reads a Made in Japan.
So he emails me three days (nights) later telling me he called his guy at Fender and he found him one CIJ Lake Placid Blue Mustang in the plant, but that they were going to read MIJ not CIJ on this line, I guess they had a few that had the CIJ logo's early in the assembly.
I dont get that, I mean this guy is def for real, he delivered, I got the box straight from Fender Japan, but the ones he has and are getting over there are reading Made in Japan now and he said thats how it might be transitioning. Anyone heard anything about anything like this? That is weird that the 73' reissue line would be a MIJ and not a CIJ line...
But Im hoping maybe I got lucky and got a rare find, I dont care that much either way the axe would rock with a skull sticker on it but still I thought it was worth bringing up since there are a lot o people who hunt and highly value Crafted in Japan guitars.. The flame is rediculous on the neck, the pics really cant show it, theres so much more than what you can see in the pictures... This is a great line of guitars for Mustang fans, especially if you like competitions and contoured bodies which are my two favorite superficial qualities in a Mustang...

And also, can someone tell me once and for all if it is possible to get a custom 25.5" neck made for a Mustang, I mean it seems totally feasible to make a custom scaled neck right? Has anybody heard of anywhere that's done that before? Random I know but Ive always wondered, thanks and peeep away...
