Unusual intonation issue

I have a weird intonation issue with my Jag and I can't find anything online about this, but that might be because I don't know how to search for it. Here's the issue...

On my treble strings the intonation is in need of sorting out, if you play from say 12th-17th frets, it gets progressively more flat. As you would expect.

My issue is that when you reach 17/18th fret it suddenly changes from being more flat to more sharp. Anyone know what could be causing that? It doesn't make sense to me.

Sounds like an uneven fret to me - one of the frets has been pushed into fretboard slightly or worn

if the fretting was that uneven then you would be getting fret buzz.

and you have definitly set the intonation open and at the ocatve correct?

keep in mind that the guitar is an imperfect instrument. its basically an english design with spanish styled tuning.

hehe, yep, just blame canada 😛

Anyway, maybe your neck is warped? You can check for uneven fretting, and or a warped neck, by looking down the neck towards the headstock, any uneven bits will be easily visible.... If you can't find any of that, take it to a luthier.

Thanks for the advice. It seems to happen at the point that the neck is screwed the body, I wonder if that has anything to do with it. I'll check the frets and neck warping tonight.
