question on changing pots

and of course i have a question.

im replacing my stock jagstang pots.any problem with putting in cts (or other)usa solid shaft pots????

also anyone recommend 300k pots, or a new capacitor? My jag-stang seems very low output and muffled (lacks treble) compared to my yamaha pacifica 112, which is s/s/h and uses 300k pots.

might be the pickups though.

300K? Never heard of 300K pots but I have 500. The higher the number the more treble your guitar will have. 500K pots are usually used with Humbuckers, and 1MEG Audios are used in the Jaguar and Jazzmaster lead circuit, and those suckers really let the signal through. The 500K would probably be your best bet since they are carried at most places, after 500K, if that's not enough, then I'd try 1MEG AUDIO (not LInear, I tried that once and it sounded like my tone control was turned down to 0).

only that you might need american knobs, if the old ones were retrofit with no side screw?

i got a couple diff american set screw knob pairs.

yaeh the stock knobs,no set screw they go in drawer.

Are you replacing your pots because the others are faulty? If so, fair enough. If you are changing them expecting better performance from your guitar then you might be dissapointed. I can't speak for a jagstang but i changed my Squire Strat pots to CTS and from the recordings of before and after i couldn't tell the difference. The first thing anybody seems to do is change the pots in their chinese and Japanese guitars to CTS. I believe CTS pots might last a bit longer than the stock pots but thats about it. You could save yourself a few bob. Pickups are gonna change the sound more than the pots are.😁

my volume pot is faulty.ive had my js 10 years.ive used deoxit to clean both pots wich worked for a while.i dont expect cts or any other brand to change the performance,maybe they would last longer but again thats not why im putting cts in.im just bored and want to put solid shaft in while replacing a faulty pot.i also wanted to experiment in diff size capacitors.i bought the pots while ordering a bunch of other components for other projects.the pots are the only stock electronics left in my js.my pickup were swapped some time ago.

i have a custom shop 54 in neck and sd jb in bridge.

Oh right. Just trying to give you some advice from experience. Got 10 years out of ya stock pots then. Happy experimenting! 😛
