I own three electric guitars. One of which, a cheap Strat copy, I hardly ever use for various reasons. Now, I have always liked Baritone guitars, mainly because of The Cure. Is there any way which I could use my Strat as a Baritone without making difficult and expensive modifications? Would just using very heavy strings and downtuning work?

i have my strat in DGCFAD and it sounds great.

you might have a hard time getting it to intonate but im pretty sure mine did when it was tuned B-b

What strings do you use on your Strat? I'm used to heavy strings, I always have 11's on my Les Paul, so the difference in feel wouldn't be an issue.

i use half d'addario jazz set and half rotosound something or other, i think its around 11-52, id probably suggest using 12s or 13s though

i would use at least 13s. . . AT LEAST

wld also have to adjust the truss rod probably. and intonation may be a bit off

Thanks guys, adjusting the truss rod/intonation is no problem, it's one of those things that once you know how to do it, it becomes really easy...

And I will attempt to get the thickest strings I can, hopefully this will fill the gap between my bass and electrics.
