Years ago a member sent me two of his Jagstang... wanted straight pickups, TOM's, shielding & upgraded pots.

Tape off the top of guitar, so carbon shield paint don't get everywhere
Even though the carbon paint is down, I laid a layer of copper on top of it. Make sure you order enough copper tape, I barely had enough for this one... didn't get to tape the control cavity, but it already had shield paint. I will sometimes spray a layer of clear coat (seal raw wood) over the shield paint, it insulates it... totally not neccessary, do it more so it carbon don't smear on my hands and everywhere. I also overlap the copper tape outta the pickup routes onto the top of the guitar, so it makes contact with the copper tape on the pickguard. But still use a screw thru the tape/paint into the guitar wood with a tongue ring and wire to ground for assurance.
If you got all the time in the world and right tools, you can make shields using copper plates. Aluminum (hard to solder joints) also works too. Copper & Aluminum are only used for shields cause they are not attracted to magnets (pickups). Using other metal shields would cause interference with your guitar pickups.
