OK so I had an idea for a fuzz pedal which I think would be pretty cool, but I need you guys to let me know if you think it'd work or not and also I need your help with the actual design of it if you think it would work.
So a fuzz pedal is essentially a boost circuit overloading a transistor or group of transistors, right? And I was thinking it'd be cool to replace the boost circuit with an fx loop, so that you could use a pedal (or group of pedals) as the boost circuit. For example, you could have a Vox Big Bad Wah in the fx loop and use the boost on the wah to make the transistors clip and then you could use the wah as a kind of tone control (or just to make the fuzz sound crazy and weird)... or you could like use a distortion pedal for extra ridiculous amounts of saturation... or like a really high output flanger and like say an EHX Mole to get a really bass heavy semi-flanged bizarre fuzztone... you could even plug in like an fx loop pedal with like 5 graphic eq's hooked up to it so you could have like a 5 channel fuzz pedal or some crazy nonsense like that. So, in theory, it'd be kinda like a "make your own fuzz pedal" pedal. So do you guys think the concept would work? If so, does anybody have like a schematic or something I'd be able to use to make a single knob clipping circuit? Also what kind of transistors should be used? Since the whole point of this pedal would be to have it be customizable it might be kinda cool to have a mini switch that toggles between silicon and germanium transistors.
Also, is a Black Ice from Stew-Mac essentially the same thing as the clipping circuit in a fuzz pedal? 'cuz if so I could prolly use one of those in my first go at the pedal, simply to try the concept out and see if it's worth putting further effort into.
