Amp Recomendations

It's come to that time, where I'm happy with my jazmaster and I need a new amp. The question is what though?

most of you know what i play, blues, post rock and shoegaze mainly

want an amp suitable for playing at home at average/decent volume while being able to be cranked hugely at gigs

i mainly want it to be clean, not necessarily fender cleans. But this brings me to my first amp, fender deluxe reverb. pefect clean amp and probably loud enough.

i only found out today that you can get an ac30 in 1x12 for roughly the same price as the deluxe reverb and is just shieldz in a box, has great cleans and sounds hugeee.

thought of a few others. but nothing compared with these two

(other amps i considered were; selmer bass treble, orange rocker 30, marshall jcm800, fender twin reverb, hiwatt highgain 50)

You want tubez? Read up on the Fender Blues Deluxe reissue, my mate has one and says it's great for clean. They are 40w so that's enough for gig and not too bad at home turned down. AC30s are well expensive and I think the HiWatt stuff is overpriced too.

my band-mate has a blues deluxe. Would rather not.

AC30 is cool with me. it will probably be a 16th birthday present (while going half with me 'rents) so i will be able to offord it.

The selmer is going to come later in life. i want something with a bit more versatility. and more of a keep for ever workhouse amp like the ac30

My mate is selling a 2x10 Selmer combo locally, im half tempted to go for it if i get cash off my Marshall. He actually wants me to buy it coz he knows i will use it and not stick it in a cupboard like a collector.

You wont buy an AC30, i know it, youre like Alex... just go and buy a Line 6 Spider and play Metalz.

the fact that i want a new amp, my 16th birthday coming up in which i will get something good, and that i don't play metal all comes up to the fact i dont want a line 6 spider in any shape or form. I will now not buy a deluxe reverb and will buy an ac30 1x12 instead just to prove you wrong fran.

Im teasing you into going in the right direction, you wont go wrong with an AC30 😉

AC30's are not versatile, FACT.

i would buy a Hot rod deluxe before i got a TR. the trouble with fenders are that your always going to end up needing more pedals.

so i would go for the orange. then a hot rod, then an AC30 then a Twin.

i saw a band who used one of these

line 6 fails, the guy got completely lost in the mix and looked like a moron cause he had teh metalz

Check out the Vox Nighttrain. It's basicly a AC15 in small head format. The Orange Tiny Terror is also another simple, inexpensive, yet versatile amp. The Orange is also offered in combo form as well. For what styles you play, I think you'd really like it. If you have a bit more scratch, the Fender Princeton Recording Amp is superb!! You can crank the tubes while keeping it quiet enough that you won't wake someone in the next room, yet you can also let it go full boar and make your ears ring. The FPRA is easily one of the best production amps I've ever played.

hot rod deluxe owns possible the worst drive channel on an amp. I can;t believe you even recommended that Luke, I'am ashamed in you.

atm its between ac30 and deluxe reverb. Will have to A/B them in a shop soon.

Yes but he likes his pedals, i'd go for a good clean amp in his case. I doubt he would use the full potential of an Orange or Marshall because he is not looking for that British Rock sound.

A Twin would be ideal but they are too big and too loud.

a twin would be the best choice, but yes, far too loud and big.

i am really lookiing for a good clean amp. But versatility isnt a problem unless the cleans are crap. I do like the cranked-british rock tone on occasion but what I'm looking for is an awesome clean which my pedals go through XD

have you heard a twin verb?

you don't buy a fender for it's drive.
