Jagmaster Drop-in Replacement Locking Tuners?

Hi Everyone,

My first post here. I just got a new Jagmaster and I have several ideas for mods that would make it the dream guitar for me.

The first thing that I would like to do is to replace the factory tuners with some locking tuners. I hope that I can find some drop-in replacements. Does anyone know if Fender Deluxe Locking Tuners, part #099-0818-100 would be a drop-in solution?

What model you got? Any pics?

Well, it's a Jagmaster "Standard" and it's new, so I guess it is considered a Jagmaster II but I am not sure about that because I am new to the Jagmaster myself. No pics yet, it's the Sunburst model "Crafted in China".

Maybe another way to state my question about the tuners is... will new Strat tuners fit a new Jagmaster. I did find a reference on on site which said that the Fender Deluxe Locking Tuners will not fit an MIM or MIJ Strat but it said nothing about CIC Jagmasters.

I have a foggy recollection of reading somewhere about the two "locking pins" for the tuners and that the distance between the pins can be different. I think that was in reference to the Schaller's pins and the original Fender's pins but again, I have no solid information.

Here's my answers

- Fender Deluxe Locking Tuners

- Planet Waves

- Schaller

- Grover

All of those come with the proper wide format post holes with the bolt through for the modern Chinese Jagmasters. It's only really an issue on the older Vista and early Chinese Jagmasters with the ping Kluson copy tuners (Vista) and the el-cheapo tuners (early Chinese).

Everyone will be happy to know that I got off my lazy butt, took off the 6th string, removed the tuner and lo and behold... it's a SINGLE pin... so, I am sorry that I put everyone on the wrong track with that two pin myth. I really wanted those Fender Deluxe tuners with the "F" on the back but I will get over it.

Anyway... the headstock holes appear to be the "standard" 10mm. The single pin, to the best that I could measure is 8mm center-to-center with the peg. With that new knowledge, I am on my quest for some chrome tuners with white pearl buttons.

Thanks Mad-Mike, I'll be checking out those brands. I know they have some single pin tuners.

Well, I have done a lot of research since my earlier post and much to my chagrin, there is no such thing as a drop-in locking tuner for the Jagmaster. Sad, sad... very sad.

Actually, there may be nothing wrong with the stock tuners. After I stretched the strings and lubed the nut, tuning is holding much better. I'm just getting back into playing after many years away from it. I forgot to do these simple things!

My Jagmaster has barely been played over the last month, but I pick it up from time to time, and it is staying in tune very well.

If anything, if you're going to be using the vibrato, I would recommend dropping in a graphite nut. The nut can get pretty tight once we start using heavier-guage strings.

If you want locking tuners I suggest the Gotoh 510 series. They are precise and dropdead gorgeous! They also come in a variety on finishes (even pearloid I believe). I cannot suggest them enough. [damn I sound like one of the douche-bags that work for Guitar Center]

I use to swear by Schallers (I have them on 4 guitars) but after trying the 510 lockings I cant go back. 😍
