Baritone Jag whats the difference???

can someone simply explain what the difference between say a baritone jag and the HH???

I'm confused and I can't figure it out......

The basic difference is that the Baritone uses .025, .035, .045, .055, .075, .095 gauge strings and uses a tune-o-mtic bridge. Another difference is the way you tune this guitar. But I dont really remember it.

The pitch of the baritone guitar is deeper, and HH is a Jaguar with humbuckers. Both have TOMs.

Why would you? It's a baritone to make it different from a regularly pitched guitar.

It's not about the baritone being "better". It's just different. Like how a trumpet and a guitar are different, depsite them being able to hit many of the same notes.

Don't ask what's better. If you don't know what a baritone is, you probably don't want one, as they're only cool if used well. No, the baritone can't become normal pitched.

maybe better is the wrong word... I realize everything that has to do with guitars is about individual pereferance.

And the reason I ask if it can be tuned normal is to see if I'd have to switch between guitars.

My last question and I'll let it go.

Does anyone know of sound samples online where I could hear what the baritone sounds like?

I wish my local guitar shop had one and I'd just go mess around with it.

Well, Ive never heard a Baritone sample, but it might be interesting. If you find one, let me know.

My band has a baritone guitarist.

He tunes it A to A (A D G C E A), the A D and G are the same pitch as the same strings on a bass.

We use it to fill the sound out between the bass and the guitars when we go LOUD. He also does more detailed work on the upper three strings from time to time. It sounds a bit wank playing open chords, even clean, but distorted 5ths sound filthy and ace.

I'd post some mp3's but he's only played on our latest recordings and we're still waiting for the mastered Cd back. So you're spared.

Ok vedderman123,

I played a baritone Jag once and if you want a very simple answer; it plays just like a bass, it's made to be a 6 string bass, just like the Fender VI...

It isn't made for solos or playing really fast, or chords, it's for the rythm section...

i read that the baritone jags come tuned as bass VI's but actually sound better with baritone strings and tuned B to B or A to A.

go figure.

A. Baritone Jag's are poorly named. They come tuned E to E in the same tuning as a Bass VI. It's a 6-string baritone bass.

B. You couldn't tune it to a guitar's E tuning.

C. It has single coils, the HH has humbuckers.

In addition to what my esteemed colleague Professor TSOS has stated I would add that:

D. The scale on the Baritone is longer; 28.5" vice 24".

E. The Baritone could be tuned up an octave to standard pitch if you changed the strings from baritone to guitar strings

But tuning it to regular guitar pitch would be pointless.

It's basically (haha) a bass. With two extra strings and with guitar-style string spacing.
