Jagstang reissue??

Does anyone have any idea if fender might put out another reissue. I've had a few but would like to own a new one if fender will ever put it out again. Any ideas at all?

I'm sure they will, if they can squeeze a few more bucks outta it. I was surpised they even reissued it after the first round. I think Fender has been catering to the alternative Jaguar/Jazzmaster/Mustang/Jagstang crowd better lately.

Just keep in mind that Miss Love also has it sign on if Fender wants to go through w/ another round of reissues. Right now she's got custody issues and isn't thinking J-S reissue at the moment, but I'm pretty curtain it will happen again b/c drugs get expensive... 😉

if they do then i would hope to see a few different colour schemes but i'm not so sure they will.

I dun see it happening... at least not any time soon anyways. 'sides if they did they'd prolly be pretty freaking expensive. It'd be awesome to see some sparkle finishes...... RED SPARKLE JAG-STANG FTW!!! sorry I really want a sparkle guitar since I got into the J Mascis Jazzmasters.....

Definitely the first two with the MIM CP range. Im still surprised they have'nt made an AVRI Mustang tbh.

If they reissue the JS i reckon it will be around the next anniversary of his death, like they did the last reissues (2003-2005).

Cause it'd be like $1200+ for a "student model short scale neck". Jaguar & Jazzmaster were released as "top of the line" guitars back in the late 50's & 60's. They were supposed to surpass the Strat & Tele, obviously did not... that whole "top of the line" idea is why they did Jag & Jazz AVRI, at least to "me". What are the Jag & Jazz AVRI vs CIJ, new/used cost? Like to get an idea of what the AVRI Mustang would cost. It'd be interesting to see them do it though Fran.

i must admit to not being overly keen on the 'J' guitar. You got one/played one?

I played one at Best Buy a while back and it was definitely in at least the top 5 most fantabulous guitars I've EVER played and also I absolutely love the looks of it (I seem to be one of the few people who genuinely like their looks beyond the novelty of it). I've been eyeing the J Mascis Jazzy constantly ever since that fateful trip, but alas they are a wee bit outside my budget.

Not played one but not keen on the looks. Mainly the matching headstock. The decal looks crap too.

I would LOVE to see them do a reissue, but make it better. Contour the body, better pups etc. I have a 96' JS that, after a few mods, I fell in love with. I could only hope they do another reissue, and do it right this time.

I think a reissue with contours and different pups would kill the appeal of the guitar for me.

A bit like the jagmaster, although i own a standard series jm and love her to bits but still want a vista series.

I just hope to the big empty sky that fender/squier don't reissue the wonderful supersonic.

I think the Super Sonic and Jag-Stang should both be reissued, I've played both, and like both.

I don't ever see Fender doing more than one version of the Jag-Stang though as it stands at the moment. The only artist influence from the Jag-Stang is Kurt Cobain, and they will either re-release it the same as last time if they decide to (which is likely with all the Jag-Stang interest lately), unless Courtney feels like collaborating with Fender to bring the things Kurt did not have done yet to light.

Now, if I were to have my own version, it'd be this....

- Basic MIJ/CIJ Jag-Stang

- Screw in Whammy Bar

- Choice of EMG SA/81, SD Duo-Sonic/JB, or dual P-90

- Custom Wiring (pickup selector, Phase switching (tone switch on EMG model)

- Treble Bypass on volume control, 500K pots on passive instruments

- Kluson Tone Pros Tuners

Otherwise the design would remain unchanged, slab body, vintage fretwire, 7.16" radius, and all...however, 2 new colors would be added with ash bodies

Clear Ash - Black pickguard and pickups (ASH)

3T Sbst - Black Pickguard and Pickups (ASH)

Fiesta Red or Sonic Blue in Basswood with pearloid and black trim

What do you mean? I was under the impression that apart from the Vistas using actual Jag/Jazzy parts they were the same specs as the current ones.

Nah i'm sure they used different woods. could be wrong though. the neck feels different on the new ones too.

Oh yeah I forgot the new ones have a conversion neck don't they. I'm pretty sure they're all basswood though... But not 100%.

yeah and the pick ups are a bit lower powered to i think.

I don't see the Jagstang as "kurt's signature guitar"... or hardly "designed by him". To me it's just an idea that was never completed. A bastard Fender guitar at that. To me a sig guitar is something that the artist embraces. And designed... well how could of it had been designed by him if he handed it off to his tech as soon as he got it? To me the Jagstang is something that could of been, but never was. Say Kurt Cobain, I think Mustang & Jaguar... Jagstang never even beeps on my radar.

I talked to my Fender rep recently about the possibility of a JS RI and from what he said, they have absolutely no plans of re-issuing the Jag-Stang. I was bummed out, but keep in mind they're issuing more Jag's & Jazzy's these days, Sonic Youth/JMascis etc.........so ya never know...
