The Shoegaze Thread

A lot of talk about this lately, so post your favorite videos, bands, techniques, pedals, etc.

The bands dont have to fall strictly in this genre, as long as they are influenced by it or were an influence on it. Discuss the FX used to get the sound you like or find out what these bands used.

I love Curve, they have an edge about them. Dean Garcia is highly respected as a guitarist, and Toni Halliday 😛

I really think the alesis nanoverb is the best reverb unit for an shoegazer on a budget, I have a friend who has one of the high acclaimed digitech xp series, he has the xp400 and although the reverbs are good, they just don't beat the nanoverb, which is only

By the way Andy Bell (Ride/Oasis) is also playing with Dean Garcia (Curve) in SPC ECO which describe themselves as NuGaze.

Another band that recently reformed are The Telescopes, they were around the time of MBV (88-90). Brilliant band.

so many people used the pn-2! I dont really mind behringer pedals, i have a vd400 which produces amazing oscillations, i could buy so many of behringers clones, but dont want to end up with a behringer rig >_>

I was gonna get a Muff, but apparently the USA reissues are a bit crap and the Russians are hard to get, although they are easy to mod apparently, if so I'd probably Creamy Dreamer-ify it.

I do have digital reverb. It's an effect on the Zoom 505 II I've got, and even though it's cheap it's still good imo, especially with fuzz/distortion, which is how I always use it.

get a tone wicker or a black russian muff

as long as it has reverse and plate ur all good to go !

Russian muffs aren't that easy to mod because the wires break like spaghetti. If I ever wanted one, I'd buy a clone.

Is that the one where she does spoken word and he does soundscapes? If so yeah it's pretty good, I think theres a Cobain one like that but I'm not sure.

Aside from price, what makes Muff better than Shoegazer? Cause if I wanted a Wicker Muff, I could just save up a bit more and get a Shoegazer. I don't really know a lot about Muffs tbh, except for that I want one.

Saw a load of 70's EHX pedals on holiday, including a 1979 USA Muff... The gas was overwhelming.

in my opinion, muffs are the epitome (spelling?) of the huge mbv wall of sound. they just sound huge.

shoegazer isnt the huge, its a gated fuzz, and just isnt that huge >.< only way to describe it really.

just my opinion really, but im sure quite a few people would agree with me.

technique wise, when it comes to shoegaze, i think the whole glide guitar thing is really important.
