I don't like the Big Pink... Dominos... urrghh... yuck.

My older brother bought their album and likes it, which is odd seeing as he is a fan of Rush and that kinda stuff, and seems to not get on with a lot of modern music, especially the stuff that NME loves... I'll give them another listen later. I like "nu-gaze", but they seem like they've got the Curve or Cocteau Twins drumbeats and Garcia-esque sampling, but without the ethereal, gliding soundscapes, or the massive destructive wallls of sound which I so love.

For current "real" shoegazing, dream pop goodness, SPC ECO are pretty hard to top imo.

Shields says he is unaware of anyone doing it in the way he did, previous to him. afaik. I've got it in a book somewhere, where he talks about glide guitar. I'll dig it out later when I get back home.

He does it in the very beginning, its not as smooth and slow as when Shields does it but I'd still consider it gliding.

I wouldn't. Glide guitar is more specific to the jaguar and jazzmaster bridges. Plus it is characterised by the slow mesmeric qualities of it. That was more like the chorus warble, or a vibrato, plus I didn't see him evne touch his bigsby.

Reverse reverb + lots of power + and a jaguar = heaven

Aye. I think you're right, it is a slow vibrato effect.

but in my defence, vibrato pedals bend the pitch of the guitar just like a vibrato on guitar, so its the same sound as gliding but doesn't technically count 😉

We have an APTBS thread somewhere thats how much we love them 😆

A regular called Henry (Gilmourish) should be back later today I think. He's self proclaimed biggest APTBS fan on the planet or something 😎 Oliver Ackermann is my laptop background.

Hopefully gonna see them in May, but I have a horrible feeling it's in exam time rather than any holiday, therefore I'll miss them for another tour 😢

It kinda sucks that Oliver can't sing in tune when they play live... I've seen a live vid of To Fix The Gash which was so painfully bad I had to stop it...

From what I hear of them playing live you can't even hear his singing anyway 😆
