Vox Phantom build/now telemaster.

I have to do something after my gcses, and mucking around with electronics doesnt really tickle my fancy at the moment.

All the builds have inspired me to make something, and I'm fairly good with my hands so thought i would give it a shot and learn from my mistakes.

I want to do something odd, and cos i've always wanted a phantom, especially a white one.

I want the body to be the same, and the pickguard, but am not sure about the bigsby, neck would probably be a tele neck.

how would i go about getting a template/accurate drawing of a phantom so i could trace it onto wood?

another question I have is how do i go about making the neck pocket?

I can't really answer any of your questions. I just figured I'd let you know that I think this is gonna be a freaking awesome project and I look forward to seeing the end results. Are you planning on incorporating the ridiculous amounts of circuitry that are in some of the phantoms (I read somewhere that some Phantoms even had a built in fuzz 😁 )?

a built in fuzz would be quite awesome, i may have to do that...

The body is what I'm worrying about, cos i dont know how im going to get a to scale trace of it.

I'm really looking forward to this, and can't wait to hear some of the advice people give me!

Why don't you do it for A-level DT??

This is what I want to build for A-level. A 5w tube amp. 2 channels, one will be a high gain channel from a CAE 3+SE (preamp used in megadeth album 5 and 6) and a vintage fender clean channel with a power section from an Epi valve Jr. Or if I can find the proper schematics, I'll get the high gain from some sort of bogner.

Someone I know made an amp for A Level technology, apparently it was pretty hard.

Know nothing about builds so no advice I'm afraid, but that project looks amazing. If you can, you MUST do at least one built in effect.

Putting an effect in it would be cool, but not my biggest priority or at the top of my thought list atm.

Big piece of advice for gil= USE TEMPLATES!!! Screw them it and fill the holes once you've finished with them.

And if josh meant put an effect in my amp, I don't plan to. It'll be a boutique 'tone machine' sort of thing. Hand wired on turret board 😎

Someone at my school 'made' an amp. He basically rehoused a gorilla practice amp into a pretty cool looking tube shaped thing. I'll put a pic up of that soon.

a friend built a tube amp at uni, called MIR:

they used the photo for their 7".

Yeah I'm trying to go cold turkey on thread jacking, unless a thread is already jacked beyond recognition. 😆

Anyways, that nine string's pretty cool. How hard is it to get a nine string bridge though, or can you just mod a six string one? Also, that amp is insane.

the easiest thing would be to use a jaguar/jazzmaster bridge.

y dun u pm him? Also why dun you ask Andrew (garagetone) since he just joined this forum, I believe he said something about using upscaled pictures from his compy or something, I dun really remember. But he seems like he'd be a good guy to ask too.

yeah, i think the whole tracing from the screen thing is how im going to do it, just hook my computer up to the tv and make it life size just need to now what size one dimension is and then i know itll be accurate.

All you need to know is the scale length. You'd need to have a pretty bloody big tv. 42 inch??

I dun really see how the scale length would help him get the body the right size. Plus he's just talking about tracing the body shape off of his TV, but he needs to know the length of one of the sides so he knows when he's blown the image up to actual size.

@ Gil: I'd try to find somebody on youtube who has one and ask them to measure the length of one of the sides for you. That'd seem to me to be your best bet.

I think the scale length would help because it would tell you how far away the bridge needs to be from the neck pocket, and from that I think you could probably scale the rest up.

Oh I gotcha. According to wikipedia it has an 18" scale?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?! THAT DOES NOT SOUND RIGHT!!!! 😲
