Mmkay guys so it's my birthday soon and since my Dano Fuzz broke I've been needing a replacement. Of course being the Pumpkinhead you all know and love I'll want something Muffy. Only problem is...

USA reissues I've heard are not too good.

Russian reissues are hard to get, and also after watching demos I'm slightly worried it wouldn't have enough gain for me.

Vintage is just too expensive.

Devi pedals, although they looked great, are very expensive.

Basically I'm looking for a huge wall of sound Muffy fuzz that won't leave me with no money for ages... Thanks for any suggestions.

russian muff has enough gain for most things, putting an od before it also increases gain without changing the sound of it at all (from what i've found)

I might try a Double Muff actually, I think they sell them near me for a reasonable price. Overdrive mode too, so could be pretty good.

Edit: Just saw the link, looks pretty interesting... I'll look further into this.

Doesn't Corgan sometimes use the Way Huge Swollen Pickle? Maybe you could get one used for a good price?

I've done that b4 I've noticed it changes the tone of the fuzz a little bit (it's not horrible though). Have you ever tried plugging one fuzz pedal into another? That's fun... especially if you have the gain pretty high up on both of em. 😉

Billy used a 77/78 IC big muff. So get one of them (they are cheap vintage muffs) off the bay if you like that sound.

otherwise the big muff with tone wicker is absolutely sick. An amazing pedal, its upgrades are simple as hell but its just excellent.

The current NYC is the 2008 model, it differs from the NYC most people have (if you've had it a couple of years as thats a 2000 RI) and it sick too, sounds different too.

if you like Pumpkins get an IC muff, you can get them for around $100-$150 on ebay if your patient and don't overpay! I got mine for $100.

Another thing to note is, if you over pay all you are doing is driving the prices up and people will start price gouging,l ike has been observed on vintage big muffs, jazzmasters and jaguars and is now happening on mustangs.

In the late 80's early 90's you could get 60's jags and JM for $500! now they are thousands!

I just got my second green (4th Sovtek) 1994 Sovtek muff (I'll be modding it as I hate the sound of them but love the look of them)in a trade (not for the WM I have in the ads section, but for another pedal I have). it makes 9 big muffs (plus two I have in pieces), a mix off modern and vintage and the one ramshead I made myself. Yep, I love Muff!

I got the 2nd for a trade so it cost nothing and i cant remember waht the first one cost. they are both the big heavy cast metal 1st version ones , the first green ones built just like the civil war muffs(they are three parts different, civil war have 3x430pf caps,these have 3x470pF caps a very minor difference and it makes the greens a little less bright is all) and are early 90's.

I'm not real keen on the folded steel green ones TBH.

You can get a green sovtek on ebay from $150+ just don't pay over $300 or you''re being ripped Big Time!

I see tons of muffs on eaby, some really cheap BINs too! Its just a matter of having the cash on hand and whether they ship to Oz with me.

Are the Corgan ones the Op Amp ones? If so I found a couple on Ebay already, they're being bid on less than new ones lol. Why are they so cheap?

Yes they are. Some people think they aren't "real big muffs" cause they dont use transistors.

They are real and sound exactly like a big muff, no different than any other two versions variatin in sound. There's tons of them around too, they aren't rare by any ones standards although some douches on ebay will say they are. Dont pay over $250 for an opamp one though dude! it will jsut start a trend going.

Take this listing for example, sovteks aren't phucking vintage, this one is from the early 90's for christs sake! I contacted hm and told him so and he said he is leaving the listing as is because other people list them as vintage and it brings more money and gets attention or something to that effect, POS!

Dw I'm only getting an Op Amp one if I can find a real bargain. Although it would be nice to have the same one as was used on one of my favourite albums, it's not that much of a priority, but it'd be cool nonetheless. In the meantime I'm gonna check out what Stevie suggested and the clone that Funtoosh posted. Thanks for the suggestions guys.

You know what, I didn't know about these, I love the sounds on Siamese Dream. I've found an op-amp one on the bay, I reckon I'll buy it when my next payment goes into the bank on friday and trade my reissue in or sell it to a mate or something. 😁

On a sort of related note though, have you looked into the BYOC Large Beaver? You can adapt the circuit to be any era Big Muff you want it to be and they're not too expensive at all.

Those stompunderfoot ones are pretty cool. They must have clones of most versions there. I've got a pretty big list for considering now.

I did look at BYOC, but the demos only showed Gilmour-esque lead tones from them, and I'm not sure if they would be aggressive enough for me.
