Should I get a Jag-Stang

ok, for starters I just made this account a minute ago so I could ask people who know what there talking about. OK. Should I get a Jag-Stang (I'm sure you already know the question since your here but whatever)? I love Nirvana and I wanna be able to play songs like Smells Like Teen Spirit. Don't mention the money I have the money to spend. I just want to know if its the best guitar for this.

To put it in a Nutshell, the Jag-Stang would work great, except you'd probably want to swap out the pickups, preferrably the bridge one to a J.B. for Kurts kind of tone, since that's what he used. You'd also want to lock the trem tailpiece into a hardtail and install a gotoh tune-o-matic style bridge if you wanted to get really nitpicky about it. Kurt reputably never played his very often as he grew to find things he really hated about it.

Teen Spirit I suppose was originally recorded on a Strat or the Jaguar methinks. Live he seemed to always use the Jaguar for that song (at least, during the Nevermind tour), but I think I read somewhere that it was recorded on the black hardtail strat he had in the studio.

can request alder or Swamp ash ( 2x times better than Basswood)

can request tune of matic instead mustang bridge or fixed mustang bridge

can request straight humbuckers or dual humbuckers

can request better nut(bone,Graphite) , string hold , hardware (cts pots , orange drop caps , Switchcraft output ... japonese use nameless )

can request quartsaw mapple neck , Ebony or brasilian rosewood fretboard

can request ur favority colour , finish

have lot's things ... more flexible

also a good luthier can do a better jag-stang , on better wood , confort curves , better finish , better hardware ... wood

Jp jag-stang looks very unfinish guitar , need do ton's mod's to be a good guitar , like Lock tunners or better tunners , Better Capt. , Graphite or bone nut , hardware check , neck regulation

also jag-stang stock donts sounds like kurt

duo kurt tone , Equipament , style play

wanna nirvana like tone ? do a Les stang

mustang/jaguar/jag-stang body , gibson style capt ...tone

kurt choiced fender coz he liked the confort

Get a Cyclone,much better guitar. Will do what you want no worries.I picked up Squier cyclone for chump change and it is a better guitar than my Fender Jagstang, the stock bridge pup is worlds better than the one in the Jagstang.

Jag-stangs were designed by Kurt but stock they are far from the Kurt sound. Best bet is a fat strat, Cyclone or an epiphone.

Get a Jag-Stang certainly. But Smells Like Teen Spirit can be played on just about any Fender electric. If you expect to immediately sound like Kurt just because you invest in a Jag-Stang, Mustang, Cyclone or Stratocaster; you're likely to be disappointed...

If playing a Nirvana song, why not just put your own slant on it - sound like goodbites and not a clone! 😀

well,but isn't this the same for Mustangs?i mean,you have to change the pickups too...

doesn't a stock Jag-stang and a stock Mustang have the same tuners,hardware and everything (except for pickups)?

amoust yes , exept jag-stang got .47 cap , and mustang got .5 cap

mustang body on vintage mustang's (not ressuie) are poplar or ash or mahogany ... Kurt Js Prot are Alder ... Actual js ressuie maded on basswood ... fact wood can change the sound

and jag-stang getted all problemns can get on mustang too Lol

I would not think of that a difference of point three would make an enormous problem for the capacitor in mustang and well-taken care of positive of morons that type of the wood is when is only one to cleave with a group of the excrement stupid of chromium screwed on and no characteristic sound

also you do not need tuners the quality to sound as hahahaha sonic of youth 😆

It's basically part of the tone control, nothing that matters in the slightest.

Having spent many years with a Jag-stang and selling it, I'd say "No, don't buy one", especially if you're after the Cobain sound. The pickups are low in output, sound muffled and clunky and the polepieces line up badly, nothing like the bright attack of Smells Like Teen Spirit.

Weirdly, even replacing the stock humbucker and scratchplate with a custom straight humbucker route didn't help matters much. The stock JS pickup sounded good in another (abolute POS) guitar, your guess is good as mine as to what is going on with that guitar..

You'd be a lot better off getting a Cyclone like the guys above have said or maybe a Mustang or Strat and putting in a singlecoil-sized humbucker into the bridge position.

Strange that the bridge pup sounds better in another guitar, I never went as far as to remove mine or even measure its output. out of sheer curiosity did you measure the output of the stock bridge pup? I was blown away by the difference between the stock bridge pup in my Squier Cyclone compared to the JS.I measured the humbucker in Cyclone, its a shade above 15k, not to shabby at all for original equipment in such a budget guitar.

I'm so with Doog, don't buy a JS unless its pure wank factor you are after. If you actually want to play and enjoy it, all without throwing a bucketload of money into it, just get a Cyclone or a Strat.

The single coil is a Japanese made 57-62 Strat pickup so it will sound good. Its on par with the likes of your standard american strat pickups. The humbucker is supposedly a copy of a Dimarzio pickup, but I think its just a cheap humbucker they use in squiers.

Jag-stangs by themselves are very average guitars, but take into account they were released as an unfinished guitar. They have a nice body shape and neck but lack features. They dont have contours, only came in two colors, have a weak humbucker and though some people like the Mustang tremolol, it would have been better suited to a Jaguar one.
