i just don't really see why, even if you had the same amps.. rack gear, pedals etc. no one is ever going to sound like KC. sorry if i was rude, i just get a little sick of

The Jaguar CP HH (the one with the vibrato) is closer as it has a similar bridge and pickups to Kurt's, plus it looks more the part (tort guard). The only differences are the tailpiece from the bridge distance, the lack of trim rings around the pickups, the style of TOM, the lack of a third knob, and the lack of a 3-way switch where Kurt's guitar had one.

I know the OP will probably flame me for this, but trying to replicate someone else's sound is a waste of time AND identity.

I can't imagine trying to deliberately sound like someone else.

Hmm, you know you're quite unfriendly for a new forum member. Guessing you won't be sticking around beyond this thread?

Anyway, you have to understand that, the forum gets a lot of people coming on and asking "can anyone tell me how to sound like Kurt/ what Kurt had done to has Jag etc etc etc" and frankly it gets a bit boring after a while. I believe the admins did post in the FAQ thread all the specs of Kurt's Jaguar so there isn't really an excuse either.

And don't insult Robb, he's one of the most intelligent and friendly people on here, and you don't know him. I'm going to guess that by "surely you have eyes" he means that the Classic Player is the one they've pretty much modelled after Kurt's Jag (pretty obviously, it's the only one there that looks anything like it and the only one with similar spec pickups or switching options) and as such is the one you want to go for for teh Kurtz tonez.

No-one here means to be rude, we're just a bit sick of the same obvious question over and over again. And frankly, like I say, you've come off as being rather hostile. Might be worth checking the attitude if you're going to continue posting in future.

I (I imagine others can too) can replicates Kurt's playing style 100%, only because I play with the same style as him. I can also replicate his sound from any recorded album/ certain years live setups 100%. As for his gear and how to do this, I don't really tell too much about it as I'd rather see people get their own sound than just mirror him. Personally, I prefer my own unique sound to one that has already been done.

There's people out there with gear 100% identical to Cobain's yet they don't even sound 1% like him. And people like myself that can sound like him on any gear.

There's so much info on the web about his gear specifics that if you're intent on finding it you will.

I don't mean to be rude (but don't care if I am) but I've been putting up with Cobain wannabee's since 91 (but more so after 94), before that no one gave a fvck about him! Everyone jumped on the bandwagon after he died, as does happen with everyone famous who dies. It gives me the sh!ts and makes the true Grunge scene, which still exists, look like a bunch of posers, try hards and Cobain wannabee's even though grunge was around before Cobain and its around after Cobain! I've never been one to give a fvck about what people think of me personally but when you get thousands and thousands of people coming in and fvcking up your scene with fake imitation,it really p!sses you off!

I will just clarify what I said earlier, because I was a bit gruff about it.

Trying to copy other players is conducive to finding your own sound, yes, but I tend to believe this is only truly the case of you are doing it with your own equipment. If you are trying to copy someone by replicating thier entire setup, then you are only putting yourself in a position to be a clone.

That said, the OP never actually stated his motivation behind his question, that was a bit of presumptuousness on my part.

As for the whole 'grunge label' thing, I remeber this discussion from a few months ago, and we pretty much decided that grunge was a result of location and attitude, as opposed to music. Trying to put Pearl Jam, Soundgarden, Mudhoney, Nirvana, et all in the same box musically is difficult because the bands have very few similarities.

And one suspects that Cobain would have been displeased with ANY label that was thrust onto him. His label was the 'don't put a label on me' label.

You will never nail the sound unless you have ALL the same gear. And lets not forget that albums are mixed and mastered by professionals so the true sound of the rig is not shown.

As you can hear, they are COMPLETELY different.

If you want a nirvana sort of sound, then ANY well made guitar with hot enough pickups will give the grungey 'growl' you want. I can nail Kurt's tone with a metal guitar with a floyd rose and an old crate head.

And as many people have said before, you're not the first person to ask questions like these. This is the main reason I do not hang around the jag/stang parts of the forum. If you want a guitar, listen to demo clips of the same or similar guitars to get an idea of the tone and decide from that if its any good.

I don't agree with not trying to copy other peoples sound. I did it for a while, the fun part is combining the styles you learned into your own unique one. I was TeH KurDtz kid once. And learning nirvana has helped me play other things, just like playing rammstein, soad, and Mudhoney helped me play other things. So learn other peoples sounds, but tweak it. Thats my two cents.

I know this but its irrelevant whether he thought his band was grunge or not, even though he hated labels and what not, it was indeed grunge.

Most people who play 3TSB jaguars with humbuckers and post on nirvana fan forums are!

It's everyone's to enjoy, you cant "own" a type of music but i hate posers, which EVERY music scene is full of!

Its cool to like him, in fact the more people that respect him the better IMO as he changed the face of music. To use the same guitar is not a problem, but then its a sansamp, then a small clone, then a polychorus, then a crown amp etc etc. I've seen it all before on nirvana fan forums. I probably did jump the gun with you a bit but its just because i see so many god damn posers say "Nirvana is the best band in the world" then they start dressing like him, acting like him, buying the same gear, then 2 years later they sell it all and don't even listen to nirvana anymore.

I lived thru the Nirvana happening, I've been a fan from bleach and I am a bit defensive because of how many posers jumped on the nirvana bandwagon after nevermind and his death, then jumped off again once grunge became "unpopular" to the mainstream.

They just came in took something you hold dear, exploited it, then left! The same thing happened with Punk and Death Metal and probably happened with every other type of music.

I'm a fan who's been there since the start, considering what happened surrounding Nirvana, being a bit defensive isn't really a bad point IMO!

I'd never seen mustangs either until Cobain started using them more regularly in 89/90. I'd seen jazzmasters and jaguars from sonic youth and dinosaur plenty though. I' didnt even start play guitar until 93, I always just bough cheap jazzmaster/jaguar copies. I knew they were the guitars for me cause of the shapes of the bodies and the pickups.
