more power is not really "better" it's just a diferent sound, i find you can never get a humbuck to have the same clean tone as a single coil.
mustangs have a really low output like 4-6K (i think it depends) so they don't have the same Bite and will never sound as agressive.
if you want to play metal you are going to want a high output pickup 15k+
clean you want a bit lower 5-12k
not a rule, that's just what most poeple do, it's all subjective.
