P90 eh? sounds awesome. i only like the stock Neck PU in my 69RI. but i think a gold Lace would be cool in the bridge.

As soon as my routing templates get in im putting a p90 in the neck, and the seymour duncam hotrails in the middle. go p90

i would only get a reissue. they only have one sort of gold lace pickups, silver, light blue, Burgundy, Blue, red, Emerald and Purple.

just have a read on the site and choose the one that sounds best to you. 😛

p90's are severely overrated in my opinion. They remind me of the middle pickup on a strat in the sense that it tries to be like both the neck and the bridge pickups at the same time but kinda fails at both most of the time. p90's to me have always sounded like an attempt at blending single coil and humbucker sounds, but to me it just fails at both. I seem to be the only person who feels this way about them though. Of all the guitars I've played with p90's I've only liked em on one, and even on that one I would've preferred it had either regular single coils or humbuckers. Note: I know p90's are technically single coils, so I'd just like to clarify that when I say single coils in this post I'm referring to Strat and similar type single coils.

As I dun own a stang I'm not really qualified to say which pups are my favorite on a stang. In general though my favorite would prolly be a single coil in the bridge.

Good discussion. I haven't been around electric guitars long enough to have a strong opinion on Mustang pickups but here's my 2 cents...

I used to think the original pickups in my '65 Mustang were weak but it's all in how I coordinate my amp controls with my guitar controls. I'm sort of a purist anyway, and now I've discovered I like these original single coils.

When it comes to P90s, well again I don't have too much experience but my Epi Casino has the originals from '63 and this guitar wails. Lindy Frailin rewound the neck pup and the Woman Tone is creamy beautiful. I don't have the technical knowledge, but I do believe the people who rave about P90s.

So for hot rodding a RI Mustang, I'd be curious to hear a P90 at the neck.

which would look even weirder than a P 90 but it would sound so awesome!

p90's and JM pups ARE single coils, so I guess you mean standard single coil size.

I'm not sure what would be closest. The design of those pickups is what makes them different. If something sounded the same but in the smaller size, the p90 and JM pickups would be out of a job 😁

Then again, maybe someone else has some ideas about it.
