Never tried the acoutiFX, but i'll try and help out, if you wanna hear what I have to say 🙄
What kind of soundscapey things are you looking for?
For MBV (which isnt really soundscaping, its more wall of noise) you need a dirt box into a reverse mode (nanoverb or digiverb). Nanoverb does sound good though, I was very impressed by Henry's, although if you picked up a midiverb + midi board you'd find things easier with less fiddling, or you can get a nanoverb with a TB loop (but this does mean not having presets and still having to fiddle about).
For things like Fennesz and ambience, a compressor is vital, as is massive plate reverbs or cave/hall verbs and a dirt box.
For Robin Guthrie of Cocteau Twins and that kinda shoegazey stuff where modulation is used (unlike in MBV where shields avoided using it), a nice plate reverb and chorus will do the trick.
The Line6 verbzilla is very popular amongst post rockers.
I don't like the cathedral, so wont comment on that one...
Neither does the Hardwire RV7 sound that hawt...
Also important: despite people saying to put reverb at the end of your signal, for soundscaping and making your guitar not sound like a guitar but sound like an altogether different noise, when its at the front you are opened up to a whole different array of possibilities, so it's well worth planning a rig to have one at the end and one at the beginning for maximum options.
