So after I had it back together for about a week I decided I wasn't happy with how it played and decided to take it into the local luthier to have him give it a professional setup. He was able to identify a couple things I had missed.
1. New bone nut to replace the one I had done (to correct string spacing since mine was done without the old nut as a guide and I didn't have a string spacing ruler)
2. Sanded the neck heel to fix the unlevel crap job some previous owner had attempted which left the neck unstable. He then properly shimmed it.
3. lightly sanded the fretboard to removed a lot of the scratches. It looks great now.
4. replaced input jack with switchcraft jack
5. replaced knobs with correct ones.
6. replaced neck plate and neck mounting screws - old one wasn't original and had a different color paint on it from another guitar in addition to being scratched up.
7. inspected and cleaned electronics and fixed an issue with the bridge ground that I had missed.
8. frets dressed and leveled
9. Fully setup with 10s.
Now it plays like a new guitar. I played it for a few hours last night and really love how it plays.
